Just to throw my 2 cents in the keyboard department, I have a Sidewinder X6 keyboard and LOVE IT!!! The macro keys are nice, (I use them to launch CPU-z, GPU-z, HW Monitor, Everest, etc., not really for gaming :p ), the adjustable backlit keys rock, and the removable keypad makes it awesome for LANs (fits in my lan bag perfect). I cannot comment on the mouse, I use a trackball optical, but for sound...+1 for the AV40.

So that was very usefull,
I'm 100% for the Sidewinder X6 as a keyboard (hated the microscopic screen of the G15)
Had the G9 and the Sidewinder in my hand and they both felt OK to me in their own way, any comments to persuade me?
Sound-wise I'm seriously considering the M-Audio AV40

I'm going to suggest against everything that you have decided on so far :p

Razer Deathadder
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard
Logitech 2.1's (their high-end ones should be a 2.1 version of the Z-5500's which are the best value in the world for speakers)

I've been through lots of mice and keyboards, and settled on these. I have not tried the Microsoft peripherals, though.

Sry made up my mind about the X6 can't really explain why :p
I just want a keyboard with lots of bells and whistle so the X6, and I loved the "touch" of it.
And logitech? Hell no, my job involves audio engineering and I listened to the logitech sets and I hated them, twinkly high, muddy sub and no correlation in the mid-region, need something more clean than just a huge-ass sub.

I just want to say that Logitech's speakers are more than just a huge-ass sub. They may pretty good desktop speakers for the average user.

And on that note, I am not making any suggestions because you are an audio engineer and I know for a fact their is stuff you need your equipment to do that "average user products" can't do.

Microsoft makes good keyboards and mice. The Sidewinder series is getting better. You may want to check our the SideWinder X8 as a mouse. So it will match the keyboard in style.
