Hi,

I recently bought a new Intel i7 7700k, Gigabyte Z270x-Ultra Gaming and 2x8gb 3000Mhz Corsair LPX C15 Blue.

When I'm using the ram at 2133Mhz everything is fine, but when I activate the XMP or try to use 3200Mhz (it is stable) my pc doesn't reboot (the first boot is normal, the problem is only when i reboot)... I put on windows to restart and the pc turn off and i need to turn the psu and turn all on again... on windows is running everyting fine... the same happens when i try to change something on bios... i change and when i press save and exit.. the pc turn off instead of reboot... i turn off the psu, turn on and everything is how i defined and the system runs normally...

what can be this? i didn't call the rma because it can be something else and i can't be 1 month+ without pc..

Everything is on stock
only memory is changed
2133mhz 15-15-15-35-2 1.2v (normal)
XMP 3000mhz 15-17-17-36-2 1.35v (the bug mentioned)
OC 3200mhz 16-18-18-36-2 1.35v (the bug mentioned)

the image is from now.. but this test was running for hours yesterday

thanks all

Set your RAM voltage manually it's very possible XMP isn't setting the voltage.

VCCSA and VDIMM are correct (even too much) for that speed. I am going to guess it may be as simple as the IMC of your CPU is not as good as the one they tested with for the QVL, or there is some issue with the BIOS on memory training as it attempts to boot, or a lack of voltage to the memory while booting that is causing it to stall.

Random question time..... You say new kit, assuming you had a kit in this system previously?
Have you cleared CMOS and set optimized defaults between usage of the kits?

First, I did add an edit as you were replying. Can you straighten me out on the RAM "kit" situation?

Also, I would not RMA any of it just yet! We don't even know for sure what the issue is. Plus the fact that when the RAM is near JDEC speeds, there is nothing wrong with any of it. Overclocking is a gamble ;)

I asked in the post above if you had another kit of RAM running in that system before you got the ones that will not post now?
ohh yes... cleared cmos, updated bios, load optmized no.. everything is on auto.. only ram is defined manually 3200 16-18-18-36-2
and my system was running on a 4790k + asrock extreme3 + 4x4gb 1600mhz ddr3... just replaced these 3 items

I would reset bios to defaults at this point, and start all over.
Reboot... go to bios and set optimized defaults.... boot.
Go back into the bios and enable XMP, but go to the memory speed section, and change it from auto/3000 to say 2400/2666... attempt to boot. See if the system will reboot or not without the hang. Report back with findings.

i did this without loading optimized... if i go right now on bios and deactivate the xmp... the system reboot normally... i activate the xmp again and the system doesn't reboot anymore.. but i will try again

i did this without loading optimized...

Loading the optimized defaults ensures there is nothing left in the settings from the previous bits. It will also many times enact memory training or memory reading on its initial post after it. Simply doing this may solve some of your issues and is why I am asking you to do it.

Well... let's start...
these are my steps
cmos cleared and optimized loaded
updated my settings (rgb off, speed shift on, boot mode: windows 10 whql, disabled gpu, disabled audio) reboot [all ok]
updated to xmp with down to 2800mhz 1.35v [ok]
xmp to 3000mhz 1.35v [ok]
xmp with up too 3200mhz 1.35v [issue]
cleared cmos again and optimezed loaded
xmp with 3000mhz 1.35v [issue]
optimized loaded
2400mhz without xmp 1.2v [ok]
2666mhz without xmp 1.2v [ok]
2800mhz without xmp 1.2v [issue]
down to 2666mhz 1.2v [ok]
updated my settings (rgb off, speed shift on, boot mode: windows 10 whql, disabled gpu, disabled audio) reboot [all ok]

now i'm using these settings, let's see if will stay stable...
so all my items are ok?

on all of these settings the only problem was when rebooting (the system stays stable), the system doesn't boot on... but turning off and on again it goes normally

Last thing I can think of is that you might want to try raising CPU voltage a touch and see if 3000 gets stable.

Raise to 1.4v? It is with 1.3v (auto)

Wow, I did not expect the Auto voltage to be at 1.3V. Looks to me like your IMC may just not be all that good then.

:(
so my imc is bad or is it broken? have a way to test it? should i call the rma?
i tested with 1.2v manually setted on cpu and the system runs stable
i noted when i buy this processor... every little cpu usage, the processor goes to 70 celsius and go back to 38 celsius... is that normal?

maybe if i send this processor to store rma they will test with this 3000mhz memory and will send me another one... or have no way to this happens?

It is not bad or broken, it just is not that great. All that is required is that the IMC run 2133MHz @ 1.2V (JEDEC). Anything beyond that is overclocking, and a gamble.

As far as trying to RMA, if they test it, they will tell you what i just did ;)
