I got a new laptop for Christmas an HP Pavilion DV-4 2045 and got rid of some HP BS and startup items and the laptop was fine but as I use it task manager reports a 50% Usage on the CPU or higher on ideal and ram goes from using 1.3gb to 3.2GB I only have 4GB performance seems fine but this concerns me. Im typing this on the laptop right now.

Any ideas why this is happening or how to fix it?

What tasks in the task manager are using that CPU percentage?

Yeah I checked that and it reports nothing using that much CPU or Mem. It seems like Task Manager just reports the wrong information wow as I just typed this it went down.... What the F man? Windows 7 Home btw

EDIT: It seems Windows Media Player causes my 2.2 GHz Dual Core Processor to spike to 100% CPU usage?

Sounds like a possible bad installation of Windows.

Well, sometimes I've installed an O/S and something went wrong along the way. I'm sure it happens to them too. Did you get an O/S disk with it? It's probablly best to do a clean install anyways to get rid of all the crap you don't need.

Brand new out of the box, but have you installed all the updates?

Hmm Well their clean install will still have the junk. I'm googling like crazy atm maybe I'll just ignore it. Performance seems fine despite what it is showing. I think I changed a BIOS setting I might just change it back. Although I'm not to sure that I did. Going to check that out.

    EDIT: Still no luck.

Well I fixed it guys. I never suspected it but after upgrading my ATI driver to the latest my CPU Usage and Mem Usage went back to normal and now taskmanager reports accurately again.

Odd I know but I'm just glad my new lappy is perfect again.

That's not odd, like I said, you have to update everything.

    Congrats on your win :)
