More details have emerged about the online Lord of the Rings game that was announced last year. Amazon Game Studios announced that it's partnering with Leyou Technologies and its Athlon Games label to create a free-to-play Lord of the Rings MMO.....Leyou Technologies owns Digital Extremes (Warframe) and Splash Damage (Gears of War 4 multiplayer), while it previously invested millions of dollars into Halo and Call of Duty co-developer Certain Affinity.
Video games are just one part of Leyou's business. The company also operates a slaughtering and processing facility in China that is capable of processing 18 million chickens every year.

(yes I known Leyou is technically just a publisher)

Ha!

Definitely looks like a Warframe influence here... perspective, camera, character position, perfect match.

This might be good.

So its probably on Lumberyard engine then, I guess? And I suppose we know what sort of 'easter eggs' we can expect?

Don't they need a licence? I thought Lotro has been having it for the past 12 years. Bottom line is, who would play another one?

Interesting times we live in. I miss the old days of gaming, of coming home and unwrapping Warcraft 3 from its plastic wrapping on launch day, internet barely in existence, no noise, no nonsense... just pure fun gaming... those were the days.

I remember taking an hour to install games of off disks only to find out I have to call the developer for them to mail me the patch. Obviously no internet or CDs back then.

I was a beta tester on the first LOTR MMO back in the day. It was a stupid idea. This might have more going for it though, since it's in a different timeline. No matter how well executed the game is, the main setting has nothing going for it in this genre. Not many people want to be in the some "other Fellowship" off to the side, with Shimli, Aragorm, and Regolas. And the only reason the strat games work is that those aren't about adventuring.

I played on launch day and then played on and off for several years. I personally believe they missed the boat on the entire genre moving towards a WoW swash buckling type adventure MMO. LOTRO was slow, dependent on too much grouping, and had horrible combat. Zones and mobs looked too much the same (outside of the Shire). It reminded me too much of a pre-WoW MMO and it's awful pvp did not help with that crowd.

Well it can't be much worse than LOTRO so they're filling a niche I guess and the warframe influence seems like a big one

Lotro was good the first few years or so. Then it went downhill pretty quickly with shit being dumbed down to "served on silver platter" model. And the graphics became really dated too.
The fact that you outlevel each zone doesn't help much. ESO is absolutely perfect with this.

It is hard for me to understand why they are going to release this. It better be a better play than Shadow of whoever as those games set the benchmark for games based on Middle Earth.

They are working on a new lotr series for Amazon prime so I'm sure there is some "synergy" to the two projects.

Ah play the game and watch the show. Wasn't that the same principle as Defiance? Not that I did not have some killer Saturday mornings fragging bad guys with over 1 million hit points but I am not even sure if anyone plays that anymore.

When Turbine was bought up by WB, it killed all their games including Lotro by diverting all their internal talent towards their failed attempt at making a DOTA clone. In that regards WB is no better than EA.

Plus I'm lotro'd out, not interested but maybe a younger generation might get hooked.

I remember installing Baldur's Gate 2. It was like a conquering the Sword Coast prologue.

Nostalgia is one thing, but I do fancy the Enhanced Editions and disc-free gaming. Fond memories of scratched/damaged disks and or lost ones, or ones you'd have somebody borrow and never gettting them back... fun times :D

I don't know what snoozefest is, but you are pretty wrong. How can you even think it is a clone?
