So I'm gonna start putting together a new machine to play with. I see there is an X6 Phenom processor on newegg, and I was wondering if it's worth it to grab that over an X4 for straight up gaming power and general win7 usage? I'm gonna grab either the 200$ X6 or the cheapest X4 I can find with all the L3 cache in it and just get her to 3ghz.

Also, I'm pretty set on the nvidia GTX-470. My friend got one, and I've heard nothing but awesome about it, so.. Other than that, I don't really know what to go for. I've been out of the loop for a good 5, 6 months. So any advice would be really awesome. Thanks guys, I know there's a lot of smart minds here that stay up to date with this stuff. I'm gonna start getting back into the loop once I get more free time. :toast:

Oh, and the games I'll be playing most are Bad company 2, Call of Pripyat and Valve Source games.

And this is what I have so far, brands and what not are from past experiences.

First, get a BE cpu, 955 pr 965, ram is nice but looks bad, and since ram are pretty much the same if you dont OC a lot, get one that matches the MOBO looks, also get a Crosshair IV and an SSD, samsung burner and maybe consider a spitfire on the GPU or get a nonref one with accelero extreme.
I would get a Gigabyte SOC 5870, maybe

I forgot to add, I really don't want to overclock it that much at all. I'm trying to keep it as cheap as I possibly can.. Like about 1 grand, which all that stuff together adds up to.

After looking at stuff, I think I'm gonna go with this.

The ram kind of sucks, but it's the only decent combo that comes with an X6

looks good,, ordered already?
thats a nice combo/discount but when u look at the overall price tag,, might as well put in a lil more and get better things , like am3 890 motherboard, and faster ram like ripjaws, lil more money but since u spending this much a bit more wont hurt
