need some help guys.

Got some money to upgrade my 60hz 1600p monitor.

I am torn between higher refresh rate Samsung Odyssey G7 monitor vs Ultra wide 1440p 144hz.

Which one is better? Kindly share your own personal experience.

Here in south korea, the price of 32 inches G7 is same as 34 inches AOC CU34G2X. Which is very surprising considering that in US, the AOC is less 500 usd if I am not mistaken.

I have done some research and seems that alot did not like Samsung G7 more agressive curvature.

Some pro for leaning towards G7 is because it is newer tech and seems better support vs AOC. atleast here in Korea.

So need some input.

TIA

2560x1440 is the sweet spot for gaming monitors and for the performance of graphics cards costing under $1100. FreeSync Premium includes 120+ maximum refresh, variable refresh rate and LFC. Those are all things that you want in a new gaming monitor.

I tried one of those ultra-wide monitors (BenQ EX3501R) and the aspect ratio wasn't for me. I'm much happier now with the Dell S3220DGF for gaming.

Thanks for the info and link. But what about if I have NVIDIA?

As of January 2019, NVidia finally gave up on their expensive proprietary G-Sync and quit blocking support for Freesync and the VESA standard - if you have a GeForce GTX 10xx or newer card. Your GTX1060 should be fine with a Freesync monitor with LFC.

Are Samsung monitors priced more attractively in Korea than in other parts of the world? The C32HG70 is a nice display.

Well the reason why I asked for NVIDIA is because I am on the process of upgrading my rig. I dont upgrade all the time. Ive had AMD gpu before but after I switched to 1060, didnt really wanna go back to team red as it gives me a more hassle free in terms of drivers, OCing etc etc. But looks like AMD has finally stepped up lately.

There are times that Samsung Monitors/TV are attractively priced here in Korea. Like for example, odyssey G7 32 inches I was looking, its now priced at less 700usd. But this is only for limited time and I started seeing some online sites starting to get back to normal price.

The monitor that you mentioned looks really nice but only 50usd cheaper compared to G7. Atleast for now.

Anyway, I saw the G7 on store today and man looks really nice. So I went ahead and order one :)

Mods, you can close this thread. Thanks

I expect that you will be very happy with your new monitor. In this part of the world, the new Odyssey G7 sells for US$800 versus US$500 for the older C32HG70. It looks like you got a good deal.

Based on my personal experience with AOC, steer clear.
Got one of their early 4K displays, had all sorts of issues, ranging from part of the screen getting scrambled at times, to loud noises out of the speakers, to the screen switching off at random. Sent it back for a firmware update, got it back, same issues. Swapped graphics card, same issues. In the end, I had to get the consumer rights people involved here to get my money back, as AOC claimed there was nothing wrong with the screen. Mate of mine had similar issues with the same model of screen as well.

Not going to say my current Asus has been flawless either, far from it, but at least Asus support has been proactive and fixed the issues (one of which was caused during a repair mind you).

Was using an Acer 1440p screen while I was stuck aboard, not certified for G-Sync, but worked perfectly. YMMV on non certified displays. Some apparently have some strange glitching issues if you enable G-Sync. That doesn't mean they won't run at 144Hz or whatever, without G-Sync.

Thanks I was so surprised as well when I saw the price. But the website is stated as new. I just did a quick conversion and with current exchange rate, its only 590 usd. I should be receiving my new monitor today so cross finger :) And of course I am very excited.

Yeah I have read some of AOC complains about support. But I went ahead and order the Samsung G7. So thanks for the input
