Ok, this afternoon I switched my ASUS Prime X370-PRO for an ASUS Crosshair VI Hero. When I tried to start up the system, it just didn't work. With the Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W and with a Cooler Master Silent Gold Pro 600W it doesn't post, but it works with an old Enermax Nanx 450W! How is it possible? I tried so many times to plug and unplug the newer psu and the cables, they just dont' work! When I press the power on button the system "try" to post for 1/10 of a second, and the it turn off. It's impossible to turn on the system the newer psu, what it could be?

I'm assuming those power supplies are otherwise known good units, except with this particular motherboard? Really the only logical explanations I can come up with in this case are...

- ASUS overvoltage protection... it's generally known as causing more harm than good.
- There could be something wrong with that particular outlet which for some reason is messing with the newer power supplies, possibly triggering some internal protection that causes the power supply to turn itself off
- You're consistently missing something silly with the newer power supplies but doing it correctly with the old unit... but I really doubt this is the case.

Honestly if I were a betting man I'd put my money on #2. Try taking that computer to a different outlet, or better yet, a completely different room that will be on a different circuit, and try again.

ive had this happen before and its extremely frustrating. hat is probably right about it being an outlet issue. in the end i just settled on a power supply that just worked and was from a reputable brand. the problem i had was with an intel dz68bc motherboard. it would do exactly what you describe. i bet that if you try the 2 power supplys in other systems they will probably work. btw, how old are the seasonic and the cooler master? honestly, i would look into rma'ing both if u find another power supply other than the enermax that works with your board.

edit: its also possible what jaggerwild is stating. in this case just rma if still under warranty. those power supplys are just faulty units at this point and i see no reason you should go out and buy a 4th power supply if you have warrenty. the seasonic should still be in warrenty. as for the cooler master, that depends on when you got it.

good luck.

It's rather unlikely that both the Seasonic unit and Cooler Master unit are both suddenly bad...

and it could be that the newer ones are kicking in things like ocp\ovp or other safety feature because the mainboard has some probs and the older model lacks.

Like @eidairaman1 said, take the board out of the case and try it with only the essential components...if both the Seasonic and the Cooler Master units work/worked with your x370 board, the problem is most likely the Crosshair VI Hero...

I tried, guys. I already tried the system with only the essential components out of the case, it's the same, it works with Enermax only. The Cooler Master is ok, the Seasonic is super ok, it's new (i bought it one month ago) and I was using it with the Prime X370-PRO until now without problem.
Anyway, I tried even to release a bit the screws of the cpu cooler because I read on internet that too much pressure on it could cause this problem on this board, but it's the same, it won't post.
I decide to send back to Amazon the Crosshair for a refunde, I will choose another board, I don't want to loose my mind because of this :(
P.S. I reassembly the system with the Prime X370-PRO, everything is working perfectly :)

Probably.

I read that sometimes this board has problem to reading the correct voltages value and it has an overvoltage protection that shut down the system immediately if it reads high value.
I think that this is the problem: the system reads incorrect voltages value, so if it runs up with the newer psu that have higher and stable voltage compared to the old Enermax Nanx, the system won't starts up to prevent damages. The Enermax has probably lower voltages on 12+ rail, so it works.
I think that the problem is this but, as I said above, I don't want to loose my mind with a broken board, I bought it on Amazon Warehouse so I will send it back asking for a refunde and I will buy another board, I think it's the better way.

You're right Sir, but this doesn't change the fact the board is faulty...

Thats Why I said to pull the board and run it out of case to fault isolate

And warranty. My board is out of warranty, it's ok and it's running from almost 3 years, but I've always been a "better safe than sorry" guy myself.

Why not? I paid the C6H just 110€ on Amazon and i can sell my X370-PRO for 80-90€, so I can get 2 years of warranty and a better mobo just adding like 20€. It could have been a good deal.

And then you sit for 2 months with no PC while you wait for the rma process to finish. I would rather pony up extra money to get back running faster.

My point. Regardless, there is downtime. This doesnt minimize it.

Yep.. if the board died, I'd buy another and rma at that time. This is nothing but a cheap upgrade that yields little in the way of anything else. :)

My favorite thing about electronics is generally speaking, a brand new board is pretty much the same chance of failing as your 3 year old board. In fact, I would wager that your 3 year old board is less likely to fail. If an electronic item is going to fail, it usually does it pretty fast. If you've made it to year 3 then you are likely going to make it to year 10.

Cars on the other hand....they know average wear rates and set warranties accordingly. Bastards.
