It's a fake, even if it comes from nVidia. Why the hell they would start with low-end GPU, and then go high end.
Moreover, why would they create lots of GPU that are as powerful as Intel's IGP ?

Clearly it's not real. Or it's stupid.

I feel bad for any company that tries to do a legitimate press release on this day of the year. Or anybody that attempts to report on any legitimate piece of news for that matter.

How do you think Apple felt when they were founded on April 1st?

I don't tend to trust the article because the information provided is vague.

We also know that the industry usually isn't so quiet when mentioning anything before it's released. I doubt the first time we hear about it will be the day it is getting released.

If this is real though, I doubt it's based on Maxwell. Maybe a re-brand with some new driver magic?

Maybe because that's the exact same strategy as Nvidia used for the 600M series ?

The GK107 parts were the first of the series to be launched on 22 March, 2012
Moreover, why would they create lots of GPU that are as powerful as Intel's IGP ?
Cool story.

Clearly it's not real. Or it's stupid.

Woow, you compared a card with a not-released one (spare me the "card" term for IGP).

My question is : what's point adding a card to notebook when IGP is doing the same or at least 10% less ?

Look at these : http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000-Benchmarked.73567.0.html (You noticed I used same source as you)

A HD4000 play on same ground as 630M.
640M is not used by manufacturer's, and they prefer 650M which is twice the performance of a 630M.

So, why going under 650M ? (720M and 730M, and why not 735M).

Because benches don't tell you everything. Many are controlled time demos which can either be good or bad depending on how taxing they are. You can have a game scoring playable 30fps in a bench and then in gameplay be sub 10 quite often.

If you look at those benches, the GPU intensive titles have to be put into low settings just to run. Thats not good and it is even worse because the HD has to share VRAM. They will not be playable even if they bench playable. They'll also be butt ugly. So there is a very strong point for going with a discrete GPU over IGP. Specially when you consider their design and drivers are more mature than Intel's. But if you are comparing performance at this level for gaming, you probably shouldn't be. You should be looking towards higher models which can handle better fps.

I don't think we'll see IGPs get really viable until the shared VRAM situation is solved. If you notice on the PS4 they are using GDDR5 for RAM/VRAM. The limitation is removed and you finally have a IGP at discrete performance.

Fuck, you can't catch it ...

As you can see in you graphic, most games are unplayble with both 630M or HD 4000.
650M is 50 bucks more expensive.

So why continuing having this kind of low-end GPU, because, it's clearly not for gaming, even at Diablo which is clearly not a greedy one.

It's not Nvidia-related. It's general.

Don't produce card if it's not relevant. 650M is the minimum card nowadays (based on the fact that 640M is not really used). 630M is not enough for gaming, so if it's for general pupose, why not using a IGP ?

Actually is really annoying. Jokes should be kept on being funny, not getting into serious business like IT or news, when some people which are not familiar with this stupid day are taking them for granted.
Is really annoying that yesterday almost all articles and news on here were fucking jokes. :shadedshu:shadedshu:banghead:

Do you think people thought it was a Joke when Apple was founded on April 1st, 1976?
That is not a joke but still happened on the 1st. Not to say that is the case here, but serious things can happen. Maybe this is real, but it seems too soon with no other notice.

I doubt the Nvidia announcement is a joke. A quick look at the Nvidia Newsroom tends to support the legitimacy.
April Fools jokes aren't generally the province of hardware vendors.

If somebody here can't understand french, here is an article that shows why I take this news like a joke.

http://www.hardware.fr/news/13022/geforce-700m-qui-se-moque-nvidia.html

If some are interested, I speak both french and english, so I would be able to translate it. But it's kinda long, so .... :D

Title translated : "Nvidia : stop bullshiting us". This website is as serious as Anandtech, and they are really good. My translation is a bit harsh, but it's a good sum up.
They talk about Nvidia mainly, but they also attack AMD.
