Hi all,

1st time posting, 10 year lingering LOL ....

I have a Radeon VII from XFX bought last august but has been on a shelf not used up until yesterday when I finally got around to finishing a new build which has been 6 months in the making.

Component are Asrock X570 ITX, Ryzen 3950x, 2x32gb corsair 3600mhz, Samsung NVME, Corsair AX760i.

The thing is I cannot get this system to post with Radeon VII, fans spin on GPU and case & cpu fans spin but thats it.

I have another motherboard lying around (an old AMD APU ITX BOARD) and tried the card on that also and same, no post...

Both systems work when I put in another GPU (Nvdia P400)

I'm using two seperate 8 pin PCI-E cables coming of the PSU.

Radeon logo is lit up red.

Motherboard is CSM compatible and its enabled by default.

I have a ticket open with XFX also but am scared they will not let me RMA it because I am not the original buyer (present from my girlfriend and we are no longer together, I have the Amazon invoice though).

Any Ideas ? ? I'm completely lost as to what to do. This card is brand spanking new..

SN removed in MS Paint

That's not a brand new card then. Send a message to @XFXSupport (click the name)

If they can't help you, send the card back as defective and get money back and buy a RX5700XT.

You're doing all I would have... tested in a known good PC where other gpus work...it doesnt doesnt.

Maybe update the bios on the motherboard (using gpu that works) and give it another try...

RMA. It should be under warranty and you're in good shape. You have the invoice... and you are the owner.. it was a gift.

Thanks, also another thing is that I can only see the XFX serial number on the box, I dont see an XFX serial on the back of the card, only the AMD serial numbers. Very strange..... Looking at another user who has the same card from XFX he has and XFX sticker on the back:

I would connect a power supply tester (something to make it power up without being connected to the motherboard) to another known good psu and then connect it to the pci-e sockets of the video card. That what you can be check for sure if the video card is getting enough power.

How much power does this thing pull on boot ? I know my PSU can easy handle 2080 ti and have more left over..

this thing pull 350 watt max power,

it consumes more power than 2080 ti .

Have you try disable UEFI.

TBP is 300W. It doesnt pull anywhere close to that on boot. It pulls 350W using FURMARK (which isnt a realistic load and certainly doesnt happen on boot). Averave gaming load is actually lower than a 2080ti. ;)

Your high-end 760i is more than enough to handle your setup (assuming it is working properly).

What make and model monitor are you using with it?
That could make a difference since the card has a very high native resolution (3840x2160) it will tend to default to.

If the monitor cannot support it, then you'll get either a blackscreen/nothing or a warning message about it.

Looks like a MSI or Asus Barcode but the bios for that card are all the same.

Put the card along side another gpu boot from the working gpu and get a gpu-z screenshot if possible for the vega card

Have you tried each of the display connectors on back to see if you just maybe have a bad port? Sometimes cable type can be a factor as well. LG strongly recommends that I use their bundled HDMI or Display Port cables to drive their 4K display. They are thicker cables than what I normally have.

A gpu defaults to a specific resolution? I thought it simply goes through the driver and sees what is on the other side and sets it.

This one did.
I'll admit the monitor I have is a 4K one and the resolution the OS set it for was high, I'm thinking the OS is trying to set a default resolution for the card and it's just too high for the monitor to handle even if it's not setting it at 3840x2160.

Can't hurt to test the card on a monitor that can support a high resolution if the one in use now isn't one of those that can if possible.

The OP can watch and see if the board's LED's cycle through the entire boot process to confirm the system is making it through the boot sequence.

EDIT:
I'm hoping that's all there is to the issue here.
If not the OP knows what to do but can't hurt to try and see anyway.

I guess... but never heard of this before. If that was true, do you know how many issues people would have with that card?

Can't say, I can only go by what mine did.
I do know when you set a monitor beyond a res it can handle you either get an error message or just a blackscreen - Seen it too many times before.

If their card is borked a simple test with a higher res monitor will rule that possibility out.

I am pretty sure that AMD provided the card to all board partners including the cooling etc. Some brands like AsRock and Gigabyte put stickers on the fans, but that is all the "custom" you will ever get with any of the Radeon VIIs AFAIK.
