Hello Guys i'm new to the forum and this is my first post.
Heres my current spec.

  • Q9300 (Sadly)
  • NZXT LEXA case, 120mm fan in front 1 120mm fan out side and 1 back, 1 80mm top out and 1 80mm bottom in
  • 2*2gb pc6400 4 4 4 15 OCZ REAPER
  • ASUS p5Q-E
  • 500gb SATA
  • 2* Gigabyte 4850 in Crossfire
  • Coolermaster 700w PSU
  • Asetek LCLC cpu cooler
Running under Vista Home Premium 64

Right i know i made a mistake with regard to the cpu but have currently managed a stable overclock of 3417, 455*7.5@ 1.4V with memory running at 900mhz 2.3v 5 5 5 16.

I'm happy with my overclock but want more. Any tips.
P.s. im idling at 52c and full load at 82c when running prime.

My GPUs are @ stock speeds at the moment, they get very hot. Idling at 76c and load at 88c which is very hot which is why i wont clock them. I can squeeze maybe 670/1070 without problems but after they get far too hot. So i have left them stock until i can get hold of the new scythe twin turbo's.

I have adjusted the side fan to exhaust head from the graphics which make about 4c difference on board temp. so i have left them at that.

Im getting these bench's, 21151 3dmark 05, 16839 3dmark 06, pcmark 05 10852, do these seem reasonable for my spec or is there more to come.

How do i disable speedstep and is it worth doing.

I have ordered some ocz freeze which i will be trying to reduce temps a tad.

There are a load of settings in the bios and this is how i have set mine are these ok?
transaction booster disabled
CPU Pll auto
fsb termination auto
NB voiltage 1.4
SB auto
clock over charging voltage auto
load line calibration auto
cpu ctl auto
mb ctl auto
cpu spread spectrun disabled
pci spread spectrum disabled
FSB strap to north bridge auto

cpu cie enabled
maxcpuid value limit disabled
vanderpool technology enabled
cpu tm enabled
execute enabled.

Im looking for tips on how to get more, can i get more?
Also is it worth disbaling speedstep?
Are my benchs any good? or should i expect more from my system?

Kind regards

And thanks for viewing.

you need some better cooling before you do anything, and sadly, I don't think that case can provide it..? and yes, disable speed step.

Get a fan installed in one of the 5.25 bays (120mm or 2x80mm), and turn that side fan to blow inward then remove the mesh covering it. I'd also remove the rear pci slot covers to allow the crazy heat those 4850's are gonna pump out to escape.

Nothing wrong with cooling in that case at all, just gotta fix a couple things :)

That thought had crossed my mind, the Asetek LCLC (low cost liquid cooler) isnt that good by all accounts but my pc is very quiet and i like that.

I have done a tidy'ish job with the cables and theres plenty of ambient air in the case.

If a case upgrade is required, what do you suggest. £100 max

It's exactly the same case on the inside as my Mystique... Cable management will cool things down a couple more degrees. All that airflow is being wasted when it gets caught up in the cables and such... I replaced my stock front fan with something a bit more powerful as well.

Thanks, i have adjusted profiles for fan speeds, but i hate the whirring hoover noise the fans produce. So ill leave it stock at present.

Thats a pretty damn high temperature for your CPU. Definately get something better, there are a number of coolers out there that will provide much lower temps and still remain pretty quiet as you like it :) Perhaps the OCZ Vendetta 2 (cheap and very good) with your choice of fan if the stock one is too noisy :)

The board is a p5k-e,which only does 16x/4x xfire, that will drop a small amount of your performance.

Try and set most of your voltages manually, some of them will rise too high on auto.

75c is still fairly high, personally I wouldn't go over 65c max, and that's pushing it. What paste are you using at the moment?

Well your room temp is good and your case has good ventilation. Do you have any other CPU coolers that you could test?
