I finally got myself a decent PC, but there's one big problem with it. On my older PC, I had downloads of up to 500kbp/s; on this one, I get half of it at best. The weird thing is, when I go to speedtest.net I get the same speed I got before, but I can't figure out why downloads are slower. My older PC had a Celeron 1.3ghz and 512mb of RAM, if you must know. What can I check or do to fix that?

I'd try reinstalling your Realtek drivers to start with. It might not be the problem, but it doesn't hurt. I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, and reinstalling them seemed to help.

OK I'll try that, but I forgot to mention that the download speed on the other build immeadiatly reached its top when the download started, while on this one it keeps increasing slowly until it tops. What's going on?

Are you using the onboard ethernet? I could never really get my onboard ethernet to perform reliably, it is a Realtek 8111E chip. Many others have had the same complaint, just seems to be a common problem. Bought a NIC and it solved the issue.

How much bloat is on this new computer? There could be a whole army of applications installed which claim to make stuff download faster but in practice, they do nothing but slow it down. Additionally, the internet browser you're using most likely changed.

If the SpeedTest results are the same I highly doubt the problem is in the hardware side, I would check the background apps, firewall and/or antivirus.
