    What about Android?

Two of my flatmates have them, one Desire & one Wildfire. I think they are the bollocks if you're looking at smartphones - not as ass-tearingly expensive as an iphone, but does all the same stuff. If you are on gmail, that's what I'd recommend.

Edit: you need to put an 'other' option in your poll.

Go with a HTC desire or samsung galaxy S.

    The N97 is crappy.
The E72 while a good phone, is two years old.
Dunno about the E5, but symbian and touch screens are not a good combo.

If you like nokia phones, check the E series, pretty nice. I see you have put in a e72, very capable phone. Same OS, plenty of programs. I've got an e63, a step-up from an n73, I like the qwerty keyboard on it. Very nimble phone indeed! So I vote the e72.

I have 2 HTC's (one work, 1 pers) and both my wife and 2 daughters have them, they are by far the best phone I have ever used, although I have not tried the Iphone.

The iphone is crap, at least for the money they want for it. It doesnt have anything the Samsung Galaxy S doesnt have, but costs twice as much.

I love my HTC Evo, but idk if that's an option down under.... also the battery life is a concern for some - though it has not caused me any problems

Probably because it is stylish and user friendly in general, not because of features and bang-per-buck

i loved my ipod touch - but i hate at&t and couldn't afford an iphone.

now that i have an evo (android) , i see that it can do everything the ipod(iphone) could do - and more, but cheaper.
