Okay so a buddy of mine has an old-ish AMD rig that he has until he gets work and blah blah. I've been supplying parts to him so he has something to use. As far as I remember it has a
No clue on the processor, trying to find that out.
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P
G.SKILL NS 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)
HD5870
Raidmax 530w (my old one, still works)
Some old Seagate HDD but it's sata.
Now I got him a 2x4 kit of G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
and suddenly it won't post. The fans with the GPU were maxed out when he put the new stuff in, and when it takes the GPU out the fans are quiet but still no post. This is with new and old ram.
I'm having him try bare minimum with just one stick, CPU/board power, and no GPU (iGPU) to get some kind of post, but it's still not posting and it's taking forever to shut down if it shuts off at all. I'm thinking the board doesn't like 1600mhz but it still doesn't work with the 1333mhz.
The only thing I can think of is that his family tampered with his desktop again because it worked before he left for his grandparent's for three days and he leaves it off when he goes places. He didn't think to test it when he came home to put the new ram in.
I'm at a loss guys.
