The World of Warcraft expansion "The burning crusade" was to be shipped in November and while shops actually started taking pre-orders, Blizzard delayed the part. The new release date has been set for January 16th 2007. The expansion will cost $40 dollars, while the collectors edition will set you back $70 dollars.

they realy need to make a free version of this game, one thing i have never agreed with is paying for a game that you must pay a subscription to play regardless of how good the game may be.

ive actually done the research on this and only about 40% of subscription fees go to server fees and content development, and the other 60% is pure profit. This is how blizzard is still surviving despite not having come out with too many games in the last few years

Oh really? How does NCSoft pay for servers and admins in Guild Wars?

Guild wars isn’t really a real mmorpg, because once you leave a town or a city you become the server. The only place you will see real people playing is in the cities, way less server load this way. And they keep making expansion packs that cost as much as the game every 4-6 months.

What's your point? How do you figure you become the server, when you're playing with 7 other players on quests? What is it, totally random that suddenly one person is the "server" now. WOW is creating expansion packs that costs as much as the game AND charging online fees. Please spare me the server load story, processing power costs nothing these days.

In April of 2005 Youtube was pulling 200 terabytes A DAY in bandwidth, and their costs were about 1 million in fees per month for it.

WOW is doing no where near that, trust me , they are making serious money. They just hit 7 million subscribers, all pay what, $15 a month? 105 million dollars in income. Say even 25% of that are paying, 26 million A MONTH.

I don’t know were you got the idea that i said it cost lots to run wow, learn to read. I have guild wars and wow. In wow there people every where, in guild wars once you leave town you and your GROUP are on a private server, I am pretty shur its client side, you will not meat other groups out side of town like in wow. This time don’t take words out of my mouth.

2nd blizzard took 2 years to make a new exp. pack.

3rd who cares how much they make, cigarette companies make way more, you don’t see them lowering the price. They know people will buy at almost any price, same goes for gas!

I'm pretty "shur" you're wrong, what does "meat"ing people outside of towns have to do with anything. How can the entire game be client side outside of towns? Why would they bother making Guild Wars ENTIRELY playable ONLY online? How would the world interact with the players as a whole and not individually? Why aren't you be able to host your own game? Your own server? Your own quest? Why can't you browse available "player servers" to join?

How exactly would one, "take words out of your mouth"? I'm sure you meant, "put words in your mouth", and my responses were totally relevant to both your responses and others of this thread.

That's some fascinating information.

Because this entire thread has been about money and cost to play, that's why.

Cigarette companies ARE lowering their price, we are just taxing them into oblivion with repeated tax hikes. Comparing necessary consumables (Gas) to luxuries (Video Games) is just silly.
