I have a creative audigy 7.1 in my pci slot and i recently just installed a akasa vortexx neo and the sound card touches the fan. Can anybody name a sound card that is either pci-e x1 or a smaller pci. I am running a 5.1 setup also

Welcome to TPU and there are several PCI-E x1 audio cards out there now. Here is a list of what Newegg has to offer in the PCI-E x1 varity and the X-fi Xtreme Audio is gonna be the closest to the $50 mark. Just so you know the Xtreme Audio is emulated X-fi.

I wouldn't recommend the Xtreme Audio for a 5.1 setup, the surround sound is blech. For headphone use, I would pick no other card as the xtreme audio has very clear, clean sound and it's loud. The Auzentech XRaider is a great 7.1 card for the price if you can find one.
