The Intel RAID driver is located at Iastor or IastorV in the same tree also, if you want to switch to RAID mode. I'm not sure where the AMD RAID driver is though.

one more thing

getting an error on boot something like "soundmax cannot find the correct driver you may have to reinstall soundmax"

I'm using realtek from the new mobo - I dont think i have used soundmax - i used a creative XFi card on the previous mobo that i am not using now.

How do i get rid of this? Cannot find soundmax in the device manager or programs in control panel.

I have a feeling this is a really basic and dumb question so feel free to mock me.

You can try a program called autoruns an finding the soundmax program in the startup areas and disabling it.

2) bought a new case, PSU, mobo, memory, cooler and took my existing hddx2, graphics card and cd and assembled today, it posts but will not boot.

...
3) system worked fine prior to upgrading the components - this was just a CPU and mobo/mem, psu, case upgrade
- same HDDs for boot and mem and GPU
...
It will load the windows cd buit I am trying to avoid reinstalling system since I don't hit it stage boot hd since it bsods from the boot cd

...

I have not done system reinstall - I figured not the problem Since wont boot from boot cd- tried multiple good boot hdd and cd (worked on other comps no luck)

One other interesting thing - it will read the boot cd/dvd (or any dvd/cd) and give me a menu on the boot cd - it's only when it tries to load an O/S - ive tried xp, win 7 and vista on different drives that it crashes and reboots. - any ideas ?
...

We missed all of this!

I recommend backing up all important data. No matter what you do later.

THEN, do a complete reinstall.

The OS's on each of the drives you tried where not configured to work with your new setup.

You are lucky the IDE/AHCI thing worked, dont press your luck, reinstall.
