I got this new memory because it was for a good price and I was looking for some, albeit not as fast as this or for my main rig. I got lucky though. Thanks HammerON for the great deal!!

Anyways it is design for x58 and I want to use it in z77. It is 2000mhz memory which z77 does not do by default as far as I know. Compared to my old ram this stuff is heavy. You can see the copper on there. I am not the most experienced with memory overclocking and related things but I feel these sticks are where to learn. I will have some questions at the end of the thread. For now I shall show benchmarks.

1866 mhz is what the ram booted to. I was curious as to where it would boot to because of the x58 and 2000 mhz as I mentioned above. Had marginal, but visible improvements over my old ram.

I did try just changing the ram to 2133mhz. It booted but could not finish any benchmarks without failing.

Basically my questions boil down to how do I get more out of this ram, or if I even can? I am poking through some memory overclocking guides at this moment.

I read some reviews. They were not super complimentary either. I didn't care. Great price for lots of ram so I can actually have more than 1 stick of ram in some of my other systems, and its faster than any ram I currently have. Win win.

I will try cas 11. Edit: Tried it. Did not work. Tried cas 12. Would not boot. Tried 1866 cas 8. That works but gives me lower 7zip score. I am simply changing the cas in the bios and leaving everything else on auto.

james, take a look at my review of the G.SKill 2133 MHz 4x4 GB kit, and try the timings listed there. I have a set of these sticks myself, they should using the same ICs as my kit, which are the same as that G.Skill kit. I expect you to get 2400 MHz @ 11-13-13-35, if not 10-12-12-31, but you'll need to adjust subtimings accordingly.

timings in both reviews are interchangeable on these sticks. it's defaulting to 1866 because of the SPD programming, mine do the same, but they work fine @ 2000 MHz and above, do a bit better on Z77 than in that review for me. Also feel free to try timings listed in the G.Skill TridentX 2666 MHz kit..same ICs again ,but G.Skill binned for higher operation than Patriot did with those sticks.

If these setting do not match what labels are in your BIOS, please take pictures of the options offered for timings in your BIOS as well as voltages, and I'll see if I cannot get you sorted. Just don't expect much over 2000...if that's stock, we should be able to get you 2133 MHz no problem, I think, but over and above...2 GB sticks can be finicky.

First of all, thanks for stopping by Dave.

I got memtweak just to have an easy way to show timings.

This is how it is at default 1866mhz.

Anyways, I tried the subtimings that you suggested, at least what my bios let me. My motherboard only would let tWR go to 16 compared to the 18 you show. Those subtimings at 1866mhz gave me a higher dram efficiency score. I then tried them at 2133mhz but it did not like that and booted me up at 1066mhz.

Man, for all the trouble it's worth, I don't think pushing the ram much is worth it. Either you got a funky stick, sticks are mis-matched, or that BIOS hates you.

It might be VCCSA, or, it might be that your CPU just isn't capable (I have had several people tell me that anything over 2133 MHz was impossible, and it should have been no issue)


Or simply, those are 2000 MHz sticks.. because they had no hopes of doing 2133 MHz.


tightening TRFC to 171 might help..or not...playing with tWCL may help..or not...


tREFI is VERY important too. your BIOS has 7280, I use 8320 or the 8960 you see in that screenshot...


Since they were for X58, there may be timing information that is not easily changeable, that simply isn't compatible.


You could stick with 1866 MHz even, since 2000 or 2133 MHZ isn't going to make much difference in daily use anyway...

No I don't neeeed the performance. I was just hoping to get them faster if I could for fun. Not too important. I was hoping for 2133. The stuff in the bios shots are I beleive from stock.
