Hey guys ( and gals ),
after literally months of pushing around money i was able to go for a total system overhaul , my current config stands at :

Phenom 2 x3 720 ( 2.8 Ghz )
Asus M4A785TD-V EVO Motherboard
2x2 Gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333 in Dual Channel
XFX Radon 5850 1 Gb
Seagate 250 Gb Sata HDD
Coolermaster Silent Pro 600 Watt
Coolermaster CM 690 Nvidia Edition Cabinet
4xCoolermaster 2000 RPM 90 CFM LED SILENT case fans
ATI catalyst drivers 9.12
Windows Vista 32 bit sp2 with latest updates

Now the first game i loaded on my new rig was NFS shift, when playing at 1600x900,4xAA,16xAF,all highest i am getting around 25-60 fps with avg 35-38 fps,,,, which is WAAAY less than i read in a review of the XFX 5850

Like this review:
http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=853&pageid=17

Now neither my cpu, nor ram, nor graphics card is being stressed out ( all around 50-60% usage ) but still i am very playable but low frames ....... Will post screens soon perhaps,,,, till then pls help me with any suggestions to improve performance ..... ( i also have windows 7 64 bit, havn`t tried that out yet )

It's nfs:shift, it's horribly coded for ati cards when unpatched. There are some patches for the game and i think an ati hotfix around too. Look around for them, but don't worry it's not your card :)

I have the XFX 5850 black edition, I don't have NFS shift, but I have been seeing SPECTACULAR performance out of it so far :D

Definitely try more than 1 game to compare it.

Indeed, nfs:shift is NOT representative of the Hd58xx series, or any ati card for that matter. Give crysis a whirl :)

The reason the benchmarks are off is mostly due to the difference in CPU's. Your comparing your system to their test system which utilizes an Intel i7-975EE @3.33GHz. Try overclocking your CPU and you'll get better results.

Mine runs beautifully on games but havent tried shift. I would try crysis and see how that goes.

Do the patches. I believe the 1.02 patch fixes ATI performance and many more bugs.

And patches, and make sure drivers are up to date and make sure DirectX is up to date. The system in the benchmarks probablly didn't have a bunch of background processes running either.

Patch Nfs shift, with ATI cards the Physx used for bumping enemy cars while racing locks up ATI cards, when you patch it performance should be up to peek, I think nfs shift is a greatly coded game people, it ran on a e5200 at 3.8Ghz and a GTx 260 on me freinds 1980x1200 HP monitor at 50+ fps smooth as butter :p.

It might use alot of processing power, sense you have no physx, so overclock that triple core a bit, patch nfs shift, and lay back with a class 4 with hitting 300kmh in a bugate veryron haahaha. (its hard to stop :/!)

Guys, thanks for the support..... In fact , searching around i DID find out bout that 1.2 patch for NFS Shift which smoothens things out ..... Got my hands on DIRT 2 this morning.....

and...

FUCK SHIFT man, why rack my brains out on that game when i have dirt running at 1600x900,4xaa,ultra high at constant 60 fps........ I dont have crysis ( didnt bother buying it since i had the 7600gt earlier ),,, after months of reading thousands of benchmarks on crysis,, i really feel like giving it a run.......

Thats not going to make that much of a difference.

If you have the original Crysis, go and download the MechWarrior:Living Legends mod that was just released. It is absolutely EPIC! :rockout:
