new XFX HD4870 1GB Bios

XFX posted new bios for their HD4870 1GB to fix the flicker issue.

I downloaded it from their site but it is in .exe format and it says it can't detect adapter.

can someone upload the new bios .bin or a way to get the bios from the exe file?

I was unable to extract the .bin file from either of those .exes you supplied, via numerous methods. XFX certainly doesn't want to make it easy to flash your BIOS.

If you have an XFX HD4870 and are experiencing those flickering problems, you can just edit your current BIOS, save it, and flash your card with it. The end result will be the same...

try running it from a command prompt. not a command prompt within windows, reboot into command prompt.

I'm using a Sapphire card, so that's why it doesn't want to flash the bios as the device ID is not the same.

I think the only way to get the new XFX bios, is from someone who own an XFX 4870 1GB and already flashed his card with the new bios so he can dump it with GPU-Z and upload it.

The XFX HD4870 BIOS is no different or better than any other HD4870 BIOS. The updated version will just have (hopefully) properly set memory clocks so the flickering problem is fixed. This is something that should have been done before the card was even released to consumers.

I had the flickering problem with my Powercolor 4870 1GB. I just modded the bios myself using RBE, and used ATIWinFlash to flash it.

Thanks for the help, I already fixed the flickering issue by modifying my original bios by changing the memory speed to be same in 2d and 3d mode.

Hehe. I don't know what you're expecting then, from the XFX BIOS. Super overclocks? Crazy voltages? It's all the same.

If they can't even set the BIOS correctly, I wouldn't look to it for any optimal changes (like custom fan speed settings)...

Hi Nafets, sadly i couldnt send you this private message so here it is hope you can help me. Well I have the XFX 4870 1gb video card and I requested help from xfx support 5 days ago and they still didnt answer my problem... what a bunch of tards. Well not many people seems to have this problem but I have flickering textures going in ALL my games ( all valves games, fallout 3, armed assault, & more...) except CRYSIS, its the only game that seems to run fine. I tried using their ISO bios uptade. What I did is I burned their iso on a disk and booted with the CD. I seems to have done an kind of uptade but at the end of the uptade it said :

Invalid package
/:R

( something like that)

But it didnt help my problem about the flickering textures in my 3d games. I saw a topic about it and you said you could help, well can you???

Flickering textures would be a sign that your OC isn't stable. Your card is factory OC'ed, so this is troublesome. It's certainly possible that your BIOS may be set incorrectly, and that could have a bit to do with your in-game problems, but there is no guarantee...

I can take a look at your current BIOS, if you make it available here.

1. Download and run Gpu-Z. It's a single file, no installation needed.
2. Next to the BIOS Version string there is a little icon with a green arrow, click on it, and select "Save to file...". It should ask to save a file, click OK. On your desktop should be a file called RV770.bin.
3. Rename the RV770.bin to RV770.zip, and upload it to a post as an attachment.

thanks nafets for the respons! I uninstalled windows vista and just installed windows 7 with ati 9.1 drivers. Ill post my bios if the problem continues. Thanks for helping. ( if you want we can pm )

I took a look at your BIOS, and other than the card running at full speed all the time (no 2D power saving), everything is fine.

You could try downloading Rivatuner and/or Ati Tray Tools and underclocking your card to 750/900. If the flickering lessens or disappears, this would mean your card is unstable at it's factory OC settings.

If that doesn't work you can try some other things;

1. Plug your PC into a different outlet.
2. Plug your monitor into the other DVI plug on the HD4870 card.
3. Ensure that your PSU is supplying enough power to your HD4870. What PSU do you have by the way?
4. Ensure that your onboard Intel GMA 3100 graphics chip is disabled in the motherboard BIOS. Also make sure the motherboard is set to boot up from the PEG slot (from your HD4870).
5. Update your motherboard with the latest BIOS from Gigabyte.
6. Ensure that your DDR2 memory is not OC'ed, and is running at 800MHz. Also verifiy the timings, and make sure they are set to SPD settings, and not set too tight (low).

It's quite weird that Crysis runs fine, and nothing else does. Usually it's the other way around. I'm sorry I can't help further, as I'm not an expert in everything (or even anything). Good luck with your problem, and I hope it gets resolved...

Thanks alot for helping me !!! so i tried underclocking the card but still has flickering textures.

1. Didnt help.
2. didnt help even tried another monitor
3 my ppsu is a xtrem coolmaster 650 watts
4. onboard vide ocard was disabled
5. I saw an uptade on the gigabyte website and I'm wondering if I have the same version of them. They say you have to flash the bios and I'm scared of blowing the PC.
6. memory is set correctly.

On the xfx website there is an bios uptade in iso format that is supose to fix the flickering problem. like i said earlier what I did with the iso is I burned it on a disk and booted with the CD. At the end of this uptade it says

Invalid package.

The BIOS update from XFX most likely won't fix anything. If you can get it to flash, great, if not, I wouldn't worry about it...
