https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/186979/msi-gtx1060-6144-160803

"Newbie" and "(GPU) BIOS Update" should not be used in the same sentence. Your Gigabyte GTX1060 does not need any BIOS update. eVGA had an issue with their cards which was initially addressed with a BIOS update, then finally by other means. Using the wrong BIOS will lead you to bricking your card. Just forget about it.

I'm hoping you mean driver update, because there is no bios "update".

If you find yourself needing for some reason to manipulate your cards bios I recommend highly that you research for a very long time before you do anything

That link is for eVGA cards. It has nothing to do with your card. You have nothing to update for your card. Don't do anything to it.

well i'll join the other 2 and say it isnt for your gigabyte card, its for EVGA CARDS. if you proceed you have been warned thrice to not do anything to your gfx card.

cause you being a "newbie" will prolly brick your card and have no gfx card. Also there is nothing wrong with your card so why would you need to update bios? its not like Mobo BIOS and new features being added....

and is that NEW version an evga or gigabyte bios?

If your card isnt working properly then RMA it lol.

about lookup feature, it doesnt always go to the right card. my reference sapphire rx 480 shows up as a asus 480 when i click lookup... my old msi reference gtx 680 showed up as a galaxy 680 with 3 x fans. @W1zzard can explain the lookup feature properly

Updating a video card BIOS is not a straightforward issue and the potential for a screw-up is relatively high, especially for a self-admitted "newbie". The fact that there is a newer BIOS version for a different card doesn't mean anything. You need a BIOS EXACTLY for your card to even try to update. Anything else has a very, very high likelihood of bricking your card and leaving you without a card. There is nothing to gain from blindly updating to a "newer" version.

Gigabyte's VGA Extreme software suite (supposed to compliment your gpu) has a BIOS update feature.
Assuming you change your mind or find a reason to go for it anyway, download the program from their site and do it from there. You don't need any prior knowledge, does it for you.

(the fact that you're here asking means you didn't know this; which means you never googled your official manufacturer's software, see what they offer and what not. Which is rather paradoxical, considering you bought their hardware.. but anyway!)
