This is just a thread to convey and ask advice about hardware delivery woes from Newegg/FedEx.

I recently got a sweet deal on a WD Black 6TB drive for $230. It had a 6 day promo code for $25 off, but when I complained to Newegg that it was already out of stock first day of the promo, they gave me a $25 gift card. Luckily it got back in stock a couple days ago, thus the $50 lower than normal price.

Delivery was fast, so that isn't the problem. In fact it was ordered 10/18, and delivery was bumped up to 10/20 from the first estimate being 10/21.

Since I know FedEx has betting getting really bad at delivering packages, like not even waiting 10 sec for you to answer your apt door after you buzz them in acknowledging you're home, I decided to tell the guy I'd be right down when answering the intercom, to which he acknowledge "OK".

I made the elevator ride 7 floors down to the lobby in under 1 minute. He'd already left my HDD, not even in the open compartments under the mail panels, but right on the floor. There was an elderly woman sitting there on her walker, so maybe he asked her to watch it I don't know, but I doubt it because she acknowledged no such thing, and she's a talkaholic.

So I ran out and caught him just before he got to his truck, and said "Hey, when I tell you I'll be right down, I expect you to wait at least a minute for me". He replied, "I DID wait",...I said, "Not even a minute you didn't", to which he did not refute. I then said, "I'd been better off not even answering the intercom and making you come to my apt door to leave it on the floor there, but that could have easily taken you more time, do you understand what I'm saying now, I was trying to save you time?"

He did not refute what I was saying, but only nodded yes. When I get a mere insincere looking nod instead of a verbal answer or apology, I take that as meaning they don't care, so I said "If you don't understand, I can talk to your supervisor about it". He then just walked to his truck and in a sarcastic tone replied "You can talk to anyone you want".

I know this scenario isn't as bad as some have experienced, but FedEx is getting worse and worse. They used to always come to my door and at least wait 10-15 sec for me to answer the door, even if they got in the building without my buzzing them in. Then it went from leave it at my apt door and dash, to leave it on the lobby floor and dash. I'll also be making a fairly large PC upgrade order soon, so I can't be having them leave it that exposed, especially in a building where theft of items left unattended is a common occurrence.

I've called both FedEx and Newegg customer service about this and complained, and both agreed it's not good service. FedEx told me when I requested it that I'd get a call back from shipping management. Newegg told me they can block FedEx from my account, and use UPS instead, and they said it would also not affect free shipping status, since that is not tied to the carrier.

If and when FedEx calls, I'm going to tell them I've blocked them from my Newegg account, but I'd also like to ask if anyone else has blocked FedEx from their Newegg account, and how it's gone for you? I'm hoping there will be no adverse affect on speed of delivery, shipping cost, or service. Newegg said I can unblock FedEx if there is though.

For me it has been nothing but issues with what I used to sell here with FedEx, but their insurance has always paid out when real issues came about.
On the flip side, I have gotten to know my FedEx and UPS drivers, and they redirect wrong addresses to me, are more than cordial, and tend to wait for me.

I have had issues with them not knocking or ringing the bell in the past, and was actually told by FedEx at one point, "they don't have time to wait", in other words, their bosses expect them to take less time to do their job, and with driving having a speed limit, and tickets causing them to lose their jobs, where else are they supposed to gain time; from the customers!

Unfortunate problem, I guess, yet at the same time, I have found issues with all delivery services at some time or another, except with DHL. DHL has been fantastic. Always. They only have 4-6 drivers to service over 2.5 million addresses locally.

I have cameras on my doors, and have videos of all sorts of "weird stuff". But as Sneeky posted above, these guys are overworked, and are expected to deliver more packages than they really can, and they have little choice but to do what they do, and that's why they act as they do. Befriend your delivery drivers; it goes a long way. When you know their first names (since they know yours already if they pay attention), they tend to take that slight extra moment to do good by you. ;)

Fedex, UPS, Canadapost (for me), and Purolator are all hit or miss when it comes to residential deliveries.

My solution? Send'em to a business address. To my business address that's open from 8am to 6pm.

No excuse there, so drivers have to deliver. Not a single missed delivery ever since for 5 years or so.

I hope it never happens to you Pete, but God for bid you ever have a package stolen or go missing with UPS theyll treat you like a criminal decide that you are at fault somehow and still not replace the package

Up till this recent year I did quite a bit of shipping and receiving through UPS FedEx and USPS and after my experience with a lost package that was delivered to the incorrect address I'll never use UPS again if I have a choice they have the worst loss prevention

cannot say i have had a package to me get lost, but ask @AthlonX2 about issues. They were consistently delivering things I sent him to the other side of town. Say he was addressed to South Main St. They would read North every time. I even made sure to put SOUTH on the tag in an attempt to spawn some personal thought, only to see that if the GPS says drop it, they are not asked to read the tag and verify. I would say nine out of ten things I sent him over the years were dropped at the wrong location, and told me it could be a few days before they actually get it to the right address. So AthlonX2 would typically have to drive a few blocks to the other address, or sometimes just spot it on a random porch between houses.

Unless your package disappears in transit; then they don't have any excuses. I had a UPS package disappear after it hit the distribution hub in Charlotte, North Carolina. After a few days of research, UPS admitted that it was "lost" and paid my insurance coverage. Since it was a Lenovo laptop box, I strongly suspect that it was stolen by someone at the hub. I hope Mister Sticky Fingers enjoyed the power cords, video cables, and other miscellaneous items that I shipped in that laptop box.

This shouldn't be a problem with Newegg. The last several orders I've made with Newegg that contained motherboard and CPU or expensive GPU, Newegg automatically added the "Require Adult Signature" option for free. And in the future, if you are only ordering something small and are worried about it just getting left, then select that option at checkout. It is only $2.50, but it ensures that the carrier will wait for you to come and sign.

That's similar to what I experienced when mine was lost. They shipped it to an old address I had lived in in the past even though I had it updated to my newer address. But this wasn't such a big problem since I had access to that home to because my friend was the homeowner. But this street is very strange because it shows up as Avenue in maps & on Google maps but in real life on the street sign it's street but aside from all that the package never showed up there ...they insisted it did ,we said it didn't, I ended up losing out. To be honest I actually didn't lose out, the package contained engineering samples from Scythe, The guys who make fans and cooling components for PCs and they replaced it without hassle and ship the new one but the point is that ....still UPS treated me like crap.
the whole time I continually told them the package costed me nothing but still they didn't care they insisted either I or my friend stole the package

The worst is OnTrac, but they are only on the west coast fortunately.

I literally had an ontrac driver punt my packages to the porch like footballs to avoid walking up our somewhat long driveway.

Not excusing their actions, but it may shock you to know the amount of theft like this that occur from people with all shipping companies!

I thought req sig was $3.50. BTW, how much did that order come to that they added it for free?

Most of you guys seem to be talking UPS instead of FedEx. I'm talking FedEx with the bad experience. Do some of you only have UPS as free shipping option? For me the free method is always FedEx. Or have you blocked FedEx?

I can't imagine that pressure from their bosses is all that great if all it takes for them to wait is "getting to know them", as you said earlier. I've seen some drivers even accept phone numbers from some customers and call them when they're about to deliver their package (UPS), so clearly they're not all following the same guidelines.

It's so ridiculous sometimes, it's as if the customer is being pimped out as some kind of escort service, expected to wine and dine these clowns just to get them to do there jobs with a modicum of respect. Would have been a great episode on King of Queens, except that it's too close to reality to be funny, more like pathetic.

This is a type of service who's parameters are left largely to the judgement of the driver, it's just that an increasing number of them seem to think that they're better off tempting fate with customers. At the end of the day these delivery services need to realize that customer satisfaction is just as important as speed.

yeah im aware, my wife & to some degree myself used to sell on Amazon/Ebay for a partial living, around 800+ packages a year. I have had the Missing package situation a few times, but where i live, Lost, or stolen, and even missing Rarely(iirs 4-6 times in total over 17 years) , if Ever happens, but Ive dealt with all 3 major players in the shipping game when it comes to a missing package, whether lost, stolen, missing, or whatever, cuz lets be honest, without proof, I cant tell if it was Mis-delivered, lost, or stolen.

If i had to rate the top 3 in how they dealt with it, it would go as follows....

FedEx-95% Grade-A (made a good effort in making me feel my issue was being addressed, and dealt with by a competent human, never made me feel like i did "something wrong", resolved the matter in a timely fashion)spoke with 3 people, the original complaint operator, a local wharehouse rep, then the service Rep who replaced the undelivered item.

USPS- 90% Grade A- (Was Prompt, polite, made me feel "appreciated" and not like a crimminal, Very good communication, and information/communication between the Rep, and Myself, Package was located, and immediate re-delivery was 24 hours later)spoke with a total of 1 person thru whole ordeal

UPS- 50% Grade F- (It took me 4 calls to get thru to a rep i could lodge the complaint with, but once thru, it seemed like it would be painless, I then got a call back from a separate Rep about 7 hours later, @ 9PM who Addressed ME in a VERY accusatory manor, notified ME again in a very negative way that the "police would be involved" *mind You i could understand ALL of this but the next part*
She then asked me "do you want to take a few hours, and think whether the package was really stolen, and then call me back? or Should i call The police in your city?" That was the icing on the cake.To save time, ill sum the rest up. it took another 8 Days, all of which was moot basically because I spent it ASSURING them the package never arrived, and believe it or not, Scythe ended up just saying "we're not waiting for them, We'll just send a replacement shipment". that is the summary of the matter, minus My ....."recommendation" to them as to they're process, they're treatment of Me, and where they could go, and what they could do.

I understand that this experience might very well have been isolated, And I Truly agree with Your post stating that it IS shocking how NO shipping Co. is exempt from theft, but They ARE in control with how they handle the matter, and how they treat they're customers, UPS failed @ Every point, except the point where they closed,. and opened the Case....Oh wait, they failed the closing part, they closed the case before speaking to Me, by finding I was @ fault, and a Second case Had to be opened.

again Ill point out that My experience Might be Atypical of UPS, but I spoke with enough people , and was dealt with poorly by enough of them that I have made My opinion of them.

And I assume You have a great deal of shipping experience too, so i appreciate Your opinion.

Unfortunately no harm no foul. See they are suppose to wait. But often then will drop and run and its not just FedEx. They all do it. I really dont like Newegg using FedEx but that's not going to change. Your just asking for someone to make you feel good and its just not going to happen. Now if the package would have gone missing well then the driver would have hell to pay.

Keep in mind. They have had 250 stop in a day. I asked

Every package I receive is left on my door step . They knock and leave. Unless its a signature required for USPS And Ive had packaged stolen. They get replaced eventually

All in all they do a good job getting my shit here fast.

The thing that's irksome though is they don't seem to get that "your doorstep" in an apt building is CLEARLY not the friggin floor of the lobby, it's your APT door. THAT is how they always delivered before, but their ways are getting far more careless.

So no, it's not just no harm no foul, the driver got lucky that it wasn't stolen, plain and simple. Next time I'll buzz them in the door instead, and insist over the intercom they bring it to my apt door. I refuse to be treated like I'm not home when they know I am, and I refuse to be treated like I'm slow when I get to the lobby in under a minute. That's easily as fast if not faster than it takes them to get to my apt door. And mind you none of these points were refuted by the driver, they just assume we're all going to be slow arse idiots, so they wait maybe 10 sec, then dash.

So while there IS such a thing as getting to know the drivers, when they change a lot, it's pretty hard to do that. So the only thing you're left with is getting them to know you're wrath if they disrespect you. That's where the harm and foul landed this time, and he had it coming.

As a UPS Driver myself I would have done the same thing especially since you said you would be right down. But if on the intercom you asked me to wait to hand you the package I would have and I even would have no problem bringing it up to your door if you asked because thats what customer service is and I have no problem going to extra mile for anyone that asked for it. We normally have to do 25 deliveries an hour and if you break that down its less then 3 mins between deliveries. Waiting a minute feels like forever. This is the direction the industry has been headed towards for awhile because people would rather pay less for shipping then to pay more and get better customer service.

Our computers record the GPS coordinates every time we scan a package. If we look it up and it shows I was parked in front of your house and scanned the package in your front yard then hit delivery complete while on your front porch then I delivered it to you. I can clearly see that I am not at the wrong house as the GPS is accurate within afew feet. And it makes the situation even more suspicious when the person tells me that they shipped it to an old address yet they are 100% sure that it didnt get delivered there. So if you didnt get the package then someone stole it from your porch and the police need to be notified. If you dont want to make a police report then we can only assume why....but yea we can notify the police if needed as a crime has occurred. The truth is there are some bad apples out there and I need to protect myself as UPS can make me personally pay for any package I leave without a signature. Regardless, if you didnt get a package and the tracking shows it delivered, contact the shipper. Since the shipper is paying us to deliver it they are our direct customer and they need to report it as not received. Any kind of reimbursement goes to the shipper, not the consignee.

It was $2.12 on a $700 order I just placed.

I think it kicks in once you go over $1,000. The last order I got it for free on was $1,500+.

UPS is just as bad, they hire people who don't give a shit, then again perhaps the management are micromanaging too.

I normally have the best experience with UPS, Fedex for me is a random time of day on to of that if it's smart post which means the USPS will make the actually delivery which get ridiculous sized packages, last one was 3 by 3 foot 44 LB box which is piss taking that Fedex can dump such a item on USPS.

In fact the last Fedex package the day changed 3 time's and once the day before it was dropped off.

I have had only 1 issue with UPS over the last 16 years and that's when a item was marked as delivered, which it was but at the wrong address so i phoned them and just complained and before you knew it they phoned the guy and had him pick it back up same day.

But Fedex is just a pain for me as it can be delivered 9:30am to 8pm at night, were with UPS it's between 12:30-1:30pm and USPS 12:00 - 3:40.

Yup- same goes for AT&T, SEARS is getting that way too. Quantity vs, quality.
