Next Gen GPU's will be even more expensive

That is how progress works, that is how new generations work, that is how its always been. You get 20-40% improvement over last gen for less price. Now this does not work for all GPU's in all generations, some GPU's are just garbage value, but overall this is how it is, how it should be.
If there was no mid-gen refresh then we might have seen a 20-40% improvement.

But since RTX 4070/4080 Super already improved perf/$ by a 10-20% just last year, I could see another 10-20% improvement with 50-series in several tiers.

From RTX 40-launch to RTX-50 launch it would be 30% improvement if 5080 has 4090 performance at $1200.

If the lower Nvidia tiers don't get 20-40% improvement, its because AMD also priced too high (since Nvidia GPUs in the low-mid always end up being $30-$50 more than AMD).

Do you see the bullshit in that? If that is the case its not progress anymore, its regress and why would anyone buy that?
But there is always perf/$ increases every gen. To suggest 2+ years of same performance at the same price is absurd.
The Super Series just last year increased perf/$ in the same gen, by 10-20%. So I don't see where you're getting this idea that perf/$ isn't improving or is somehow regressing...

I'm just sad that trying one's best to be reasonable and objective seems to be a dying and laughed at trait even here on TPU.
Dying but not forgotten.
Flagships used to be only 250 watts from Nvidia (back when the x70 matched the prior gen x80 Ti)
30-series flagship upped it to 350 watts. (and the 280 watt 4070 Ti matched it)
40-series flagship upped it to 450 watts. (and the 5080 is rumored to match 4090, but at 350 watts)
50-series flagship is seemingly upping it again to 500+ watts. (which 6080 might match it as a 400+ watt monstrosity).

I will probably never put a GPU capable of drawing 400+ watts in my machine so I just ignore them.
While I'm not as much a stickler for raw efficiency even if I think its a nice bonus, and something that should DEFINITELY be strived for (your talking to a guy who picked a 2080 super over a 4060 because I found it for a better initial price, despite the efficiency on the 2080 super being poop in comparison)

I personally wouldn't put anything over 400 too, especially considering performance in GPU's as a whole seems like its starting to stagnate in some regards. I might as well upgrade to a 3080 and chill with that for the next couple of years before I consider buying 50 series. Then again, I don't buy GPU's fresh and new for my own actual machines. Openbox and slightly used, sure though.

Right now cheapest RX 7900 XT costs 654€ and RTX 4070 Ti Super costs 835€ thats a ~ 28% difference right now.

RX 9070 XT should strike while iron is hot because even now nvidia's price to performance ratio is poor. If RX 9070 XT manages to cost ~499-549$ than RTX 4070 Ti Super is ~60% more expensive for the same performance. It will sell if price is correct.

That would last for maybe a month, till Nvidia brings out its response to the 9070 XT, which will probably only cost 10% more than what the 9070 XT ends up being.

Maybe AMD can make up poor sales this way. If the 50 series generational jump as a whole isnt as big as 20 to 30 series at least, I think it will open up holes in NVIDIA's dominance that AMD could most definitely use to their advantage. Same with Intel. Now that I'm taking a bigger look at it, it could be really interesting.

If RT performance will be the same there is no reason to overpay for nvidia.

DLSS says otherwise. 10% isn't much of a premium.
Meh, there's FSR. It's really not as bad as it was with version 1.

Yep.. us cheap-o's have to use some kind of upscaling at some point..

Unless I do my income tax then I could get that flashy 5090.. but my family would be less than thrilled.

Edit:

Except my kids, they would approve..

And it only keeps getting better. Don't know if it will ever match DLSS, but its still so much better than it used to be. The few times I've used FSR I haven't really had too many gripes with the newest versions of it besides the fact it looks blurry in some games when standing still. But you could also attribute that to DLSS aswell.

Honestly? 10% premium for slightly better up scaling isnt worth the cost in my book.

Although, I've just tried the FSR 3 update in Space Marine 2, and... well... let's just say it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Actually, I found the experience quite acceptable. Not great, but acceptable. :wtf:

Might have to wait for the Super release to make it worth it :kookoo:

That greatly enhances the experience. :D

I don't mind upscaling on my 4K TV. My PC monitor is a different story.

Man, I could put the 980ti back in and still be happy.

My Super 4070 in theory should last me easily 5 years. The old games don't change, and the new games are the same gameplay as the old games.

If looks where everything, we'd have hardware particle physx and VR would be popular. But no, we all stare at flat panels or slightly curved monitors and debate 10's of percent changes in a couple hundred frame rate differences.

75 is better than 63. (Looks the same without the number, enter console gaming here.)

Honestly it even sounds too conservative to be true but who knows.

In Europe right now there are bigger gap than only ~10% as you mentioned.

RX 7800 XT ~467€, RTX 4070 Super ~567€ that's ~22% more expensive
RX 7900 XT ~654€, RTX 4070 Ti Super ~835€ that's ~28% more expensive
RX 7900 XTX ~915€, RTX 4080 Super ~1030€ that's ~13% more expensive

That is why I never watch reviews, only read them, and I always go for the performance diagrams in my most played games first. If something is over 60, I put my hands up and go "yep, that'll do". :D

Youtube reviews tend to display products as either utter garbage or the saviour of mankind (usually the former - it brings more clicks) based on a 10% difference, which I find ridiculous.

CP2077 was the exact opposite. FSR2.1 is much better, with barely any shimmering and only on foliage on some places.

Metro Exodus was great for FSR quality was very good also for dlss. Tested on RX 7900 XT, RX 7800 XT and RTX 3080

Then you also have this watch it for yourself.

Never assume there's only 1 video card in my house sir. :)

I gave my kid RX 6700 XT. Gave Bones 6600 non XT I think it was. My brother got 6500XT and 6700 non xt. 6800 was sold. So where 2x 6500 XT cards. And a 6400 sold. Daughters rig RTX 2060. My rig 4070 Super. Drawer holds undisclosed number of cards and their make and models. Remember Ive benchmarked at least 200 video cards in my OC career. :)
