Your not getting a 3rd gen ryzen, Samsung SSD, and top tier AMD GPU in that thing. You will get entry level laptop CPU performance, mid tier GPU performance (think AMD 590 performance but far more efficient) and a SSD that puts size and reliability way ahead of performance.

The Xbox One X already has 40 compute units on TSMC's 16nm process.
I would be shocked if the next gen consoles aren't at least twice as powerful if not more on 7nm.

Apparently from what I am reading, the PS4 also used a USB interface to communicate with the drive. Seems like the overall interface was pretty slow, and thats why putting an SSD in a PS4 was not a big upgrade. https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...station-4-hack-confirmed-watch-the-linux-demo
I have a 525GB SSD in my PS4 Pro, and I totally notice the load time improvement in Destiny 2. On a strike, I’ll often be 20 seconds into the map before the other two players join. By my perception, load times match that of the mid-level gaming PC I had with a SATA SSD. It’s often faster on a PS4 because the network seems better than battle.net. I just hope Sony sticks to $400 price range and not go up.

Shouldn't that been 8 real cores for the mass populase?
Technically, both Xbox1 and PS4 have 8 real cores. The cores themselves are just pretty weak.

The GPU performance should be somewhere between Vega 56 & VII, quite a big range but surely Navi brings some uarch improvements besides the 7nm added efficiency. The other interesting part would be memory type & capacity for this beast, 16GB HBM2 for instance could be massive.

Except 16GB of HBM2 still costs in the ball park of $250-300

That would be great, but it would also drive the cost even higher.

Yeah, the 8K support think is probably video only, hence why I didn't mention it. As for the SSD, if you put one in a PS4 you won't get those kinds of improvements. Article even says it'd be about 1/3 faster which would put it around 10 secs. So they're definitely up to some trickery here.
PS4 doesn't have a flash drive attached directly to the gpu. No copies, no decompression streaming latency, no bank conflicts. You start to see a pattern.

I don't believe PS5 is great console of the all time. PS5 is $500 so i expect it isn't powerful than PS4 Pro.(Maybe it beats Pro but it isn't with %30-50 difference) I think it will be similar with PS4 Pro. Also GTX 1050 supports 8K resolution, PS5 is just show to many feature.
PS4 has got a HD 7850-7870. Maybe PS5 has got a RX 580-3070. I think that it doesn't include Vega 56 or 64. These cards are high segment. Sorry but i don't expect Ray Tracing for Navi (First generation). Maybe PS5 has got a RX 4000 series.
(i'm not against but i don't expect)

And how would you know that, genuinely curious because AMD certainly doesn't pay "spot" prices for any of these?
Based on this:
https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3032-vega-56-cost-of-hbm2-and-necessity-to-use-it
and their sources confirming nearly unchanged price when VII was about to launch. Combine this with fudzilla's report:
https://www.fudzilla.com/news/graphics/48019-radeon-vii-16gb-hbm-2-memory-cost-around-320
which lists $320 as the total cost of HBM2 on VII and you have that estimate.

That's assuming the cost stayed nearly the same. To factor the potential change I gave the $250-300 range, since we're dealing with very large volume order.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
meh... still no exclusive to the PS make me inclined to take a PS system (i had a PS2 Slim but that one i did won it ) as for some of the exclusive that were interesting ... they are either :
1. coming to PC slowly in a fitting nostalgia streak (for the older one )
2. only of PS1/2 and PSP ... (PS3/4 has literally nothing worth aside H:ZD, imho.) and well ... PPSSPP on a phone, ePSXe(PC/phone tho i use more FPse for phone) and PCSX 2 (and even RPCS3 ) just buy the original game nonetheless

although Ray tracing and 8k will make some interested buyer jump on it with a "WOOOOO my console is 8k capable and can do Raytracing, your PC is sh!t" while not understanding the truth behind ;) (i mean seriously ... a console being 8K while higher PC config are barely 4k capable and surely not 4K/30 capable while having RT on ... stop dreaming )

the only console i stayed with was the Xbox till Xbox 360 but then ... ditched it and stayed with my PC (although it's sad that some of my X360 exclusive are gathering the dust ... didn't follow is there a X360 Emulator? edit: well the best X360 emulator is stated to be the XboxOne  and Xenia being a "well almost, but ain't easy like a PS emulation" ...)

The piece about Vega 56 is too old, the one in FUD states this ~
Currently HBM 2 chips cost around #80 for 4GB. It is very hard for us to estimate the exact price that AMD is paying to its supplier but with this in mind 16 HBM 2 could be as expensive as $320, very close to half of the whole cost. This will be close to what AMD is paying.
https://www.fudzilla.com/news/graphics/48019-radeon-vii-16gb-hbm-2-memory-cost-around-320

Beyond that Sammy & others have also increased production of HBM2 massively in recent years, there's also tiers of HBM which are cheap or costly depending on the speed - so no there's no way to know for sure what's the unit cost of 16GB HBM2 short of the supplier disclosing it themselves, though GDDR6 should be cheaper.

In the end it's probably a $500 total end user system cost. Don't expect miracles.

You're getting an 8 core Zen 2 based CPU on it. Not sure what the SSD brand or size will be, or even if it's a pure SSD solution (seems prohibitive at this price point). Performance for the GPU is unknown but I would be surprised if it's anything less than Vega 56 perf.

Shouldn't that been 8 real cores for the mass populase?
It is 8 cores! :)

I just hope Sony sticks to $400 price range and not go up.
I'm expecting it to go back up to the PS3's 499 price point. Which for what it seems like you're getting, doesn't seem like such a bad deal to me. Sony most likely won't say anything about pricing this year.

It will definitely beat the PS4 Pro, what would be the point otherwise? And it won't have an RX anything, it's a custom Navi with, yes, ray tracing. It might not be any good ray tracing, but it'll have it.

Well that's the point - I don't believe the next console will be $500 more like $600-700 for the top end, regardless of HBM especially if they include a high end NVMe drive. You can't expect everything else to go up in $ & not consoles - Intel's MSDT flagship is 60~70% more expensive than just 2 years back, their HEDT top tier is even higher, Apple's flagship is also nearly doubled in price since AMD first started with PS4, Nvidia sells their flagship at roughly twice the cost. Why should MS or Sony subsidize their hardware like a decade back, with PS3

I didn't say that right, I was meaning high performance compared to the current low power/performance of Jaguar cores. Wonder what will happen to games on the PC platform now that the consoles will have more cpu grunt to work with?

I'll buy it on launch. The only console I need.

PC + PS is the best combo.

I can emulate Switch games on my PC and "Microsoft Exclusives" are present on Windows 10 Store, if I feel the need to play one.
