No... i spent $950 on a GTX 1080, and now $2600 on my 3090. I totally saw the price hike and the low stock and dealt with it.

I also am well aware that nicehash mining has NOTHING to do with these shortages, and that users mining at home has zero effect on stock levels... us gamers already HAVE the cards.

These GPU's are luxury items, not a neccesity. There is no reason for anyone to be mad about low stock levels.
I don't have a fancy new card. Outlandish prices and near nonexistent stock hasn't allowed me to get something new.

I'd love to upgrade from my 980ti that's having issues, but I can't. It's not that I am unable to physically install a new GPU if I had one, but I can't (unlike you, clearly) afford $1-3K for a GPU. I am upset about low stock levels, I very well could be days away from being able to use my computer if my GPU finally decides to take a shit on me. But I'm glad you convinced me that my feelings about stock levels are just me being petty because I am in need of a luxury item....

Mining is part of the underlying problem. You coming off bitter towards others that dislike the cryptominning ad makes it feel like you are being personally attacked and have to defend the ad while beating your chest as you brag about how much you were able to spend to get an overpriced GPU.

Good for you. Most people can't currently afford to do that with the prices the way they are. Scalping is a real problem. Just because you have the money does not mean everyone else does. Hell they can't even get used cards as the prices are so insane.
us gamers already HAVE the cards.
Rubbish. You are one of the privileged elite who got their hands on one. Most who want one can't get one, nor any of the other offerings NVidia has made.
These GPU's are luxury items, not a neccesity.
Wow...
There is no reason for anyone to be mad about low stock levels.
That's a load of cobblers... When these cryptocoin induced shortages affect my ability to pay my employees and provide service to my clients and customers, I have plenty to be absolutely livid about. To see TPU promoting a part of what is causing these problems and seeing you defend same is insulting to everyone who is a part of this industry.

TPU should be appealing to it's target audience and NOT supporting something that is causing real problems.

I dont get this weirdness - is it really just jealousy about what other people are doing with their products?
Are you also mad people own a newer car or phone than you? Do you get pissed off people use facebook messenger on an iphone instead of imessage like they're meant to?

Yikes. It's always nice to see a condescending troll with 'staff member' under their name.

Ok... even to me it seems you are trolling...

Is it OK that RX6900 costs 2K Euro or RTX3090 3.5K Euro? And what caused it? It costs for a price of a used car. Don't you think people are unpleased with that and pouring more salt like telling I dont get this weirdness is simply trolling? Basically it is obvious and what not to understand, people are unhappy about the price jump, total absence of cards in certain markets? It gives me the bumps if my GPU would suddenly die on me.

It's a bit rude dude... do your stuff... but don't argue with people complaining about it, they have a solid point. I do not support mindless mining as such as I treat it as ecological disaster due to wasted electricity resources. You won't buy a better future for you kids with that.

I'm not pissed and frankly I kinda like when people are angry about not having new GPUs, and I also enjoy the fragmentation of the "gamers" moniker. You said gamers have the new cards, which mean gamers without them aren't actual gamers.

You can have a socio economic discussion here ("i saw the price hike and dealt with it" kinda indicates that people not willing/able to spend that money have themselves to blame, because they are not willing to "deal with it") if you like.

And you're making a profit on mining. Good for you. You're so clever, and a good person, maybe even the greatest.

Crypto currency mining hurt our planet just as much as physical mining of resources, both by pulling nasty amounts of electricity and by e-waste. So... much... e-waste.
The topic is not so controversial, since one side of the argument knows the plathora of issues associated with it, and the other side prefers self-gain over the literal planet's health he lives in.
This isn't some preachy tree-hugging claim. This is the reality we live in.

The whole consumer side of things is just kicking the userbase while its down at this point

I'm not mad, TPU. I now better than many how hard it is to make a living in today's reality. Im just bitter and disappointed that a place I respect that much has made what I think is an incorrect cooperation decision.

I agree with Mussels here that anyone currently gaming on a P.C. already has a Graphics Card, and doesn't need to go out and get the latest and greatest just for epeen's sake.

It definitely feels like a preachy tree-hugging claim. It's one thing to criticize the tech industry as a whole, but to single out individual miners who are probably no more than college kids looking to help pay some bills or make some extra money is quite a bit unfair.

If you want to criticize the tech industry as a whole for their rampant e-waste issues or even criticize large corporations that encourage mining on massive levels, then fair game.

Just to wade into the argument, as I’ve said elsewhere on TPU, the real fix is for NVIDIA and AMD to increase production to meet demand. They either can’t or won’t do this, I don’t know.

However, neither gamers nor miners are doing anything wrong in using cards that they paid good money for as they see fit. The only morally reprehensible users are the scalpers. I think this kind of profiteering should be made illegal, as are other forms such as cartels.

I am a long time reader on this page and I just registered to express my concerns about this add. I know that some here don't care and will say I don't have to click it, but in the past I did this to support TPU. I know I am only a tiny reader, now with a registered account, but it might still matter in the end.

Also, I would like to upgrade my RX 570 but since scalpers, mining and the overall high demand due to c19 I am screwed. I can't pay the double or more MSRP that is being asked from etail and retail. To be honest, even if I could pay it, I simply would NOT support this.

By the way mining is only good for personal profit, don't look at the side effects like more pollution.......but yeah miners are nice lol.

TL;DR: If TPU needs more money just ask your community. I am willing to help this way, not the other one. (also consider paying for an ad free account version)

Tell that to people with old PCs, that either wanted to change to something better to play newest games, or are just forced to buy a GPU cause of the failure of the previous one. Yeah, GPUs aren't a necessity, but playing games can be a hobby or even a passion for some, yet cause of mining they can't get a hardware needed, at least not in even remotely reasonable prices.

What the actual F?

What shitty excuse is it this time? Keysites, bitcoin miners... Any more gutter trash you want to peddle? Holy crap

I just cannot understand this at all. Zero responsibility.

Why? A sale is a sale. What's the problem. Supply and demand, basic capitalism.
Basic capitalism with no ethics, is the problem. The world isn't built on supply and demand, just the economy.

This site is now marketing irresponsible waste for short term gain.

I would be happy with something that decimates my GTX 980.

Unfortunately I am not willing to pay the premium, so its the back of the bus for me.

All the hate over something so simple, and the petty attacks on W1zzard as if he isn't human.... Smh

I get that some may be upset, but idle threats and all this madness will pass, and every single one of you complaining will still be at TPU when the ad is gone until the next one that ruffles feathers hits.

Im not saying you cannot have feeling and emotions. Just that W1zzard is not your mother, and should be shown massive amounts of respect for what he does rather than all of this pettiness.

Hi,
I'd likely just question the adds validity
Up to 8.us a day, okay prove it because power is not free and I get sort of sick of seeing this description "Modern" thrown around like it supposed to mean something real because that image of a gpu isn't one I even recognize I've never seen a gpu that has a carry handle on it lol

However, neither gamers nor miners are doing anything wrong in using cards that they paid good money for as they see fit. The only morally reprehensible users are the scalpers. I think this kind of profiteering should be made illegal, as are other forms such as cartels. However, this is off topic for this thread.
One could argue that mining is also morally reprehensible, when you look at the vast amounts of energy wasted in the process and when you consider the origin of said wasted energy.
