Hello fellow tpu people,

I have been having trouble with this build. Here is whats going on: I have put together a mobo that my brother gave 2 me along with cpu and ram he had upgrated his rig. Now I have put together the whole pc and now I cant even get a beep at start up. The screen is black I tried 2 different rams that work I rechecked all cables and still nothing. I am not sure what else to do.

thanks
Rol

Also, make sure there is a motherboard speaker and that it's hooked up.

I assume you mean it powers up and the fans spin? just doesnt give the passed bios beep. Did you move the Clerar CMOS jumper and remove the battery, wait 2 minutes, replace battery and move jumper back to original possition. Just his old settings on the board may cause a no boot issue as well. I say This is a good place to start.

Not sure about that mobo, but some mobos are actually coming this way, surprisingly. I have a DG33TL Intel board, and it doesn't post beep at all. After a little accident after an experiment , I RMA'd the board. I got a brand new one, and it still wouldn't beep. Even though it is a BIOS standard, I guess some don't include it.

Do the fans spin? Or not even for a small moment?

Remove the memory, see if it beeps. It should beep enough to make you turn it off again :)
If it doesn't beep without RAM either the board or the CPU isn't working. Motherboards tend to die a lot more though.

i agree dan, thats how i always test for deadness of board,if it dont beep without ram in it,its generally dead.

Unfortunately, that sounds like a dead mobo. Is there a LED on your mobo that indicates whether it has power?

If you can't start just the mobo (no HDD's/CD drives, no RAM, just a PSU) and still get no beeps, with a PSU you know works, then your mobo is dead :(

I've seen this 10 or 20 times, and it's so common.

People bend pins in processors and they don't make contact.

Check to make sure they're all perfectly straight.

Is the 4 pin cpu power plugged in? Only thing I can think of that wouldn't make a board post with fans spinning and no beebs.

Make sure the cpu is in the right way. My bro put it in the wrong direction once. Thankfully it's fine.

You try an agp video card instead of on board?

If he put it in the wrong direction it's quite likely that there are bent pins.

Could be that both boards are on the same BIOS version and the new CPU isn't supported yet on that version... Put an old CPU in to test maybe?

Possibly, if the BIOS doesn't even register that it has a CPU in it wont do anything else. I had the same problem on my current board. BIOS update fixed it right up.
