Just wondered why this hdd has no disc cleanup option, I noticed if i delete stuff off it, it was just gone, and not in the recycle bin.

Are you the administrator on the computer? My best guess is that someone blocked it or something went wonky. You can still use disc cleanup by typing "cleanmgr" in run.

I'm Admin yes, and disc cleanup is there on my other drive. The 320gb came out of a Sky hd box, dunno if that makes any difference though.

No, it should be in general. At least it is on my drives.

It's not disabled for this drive.

Cleanup is on the drive properties, here it is on my other drive.

Yes it's connected by SATA. It's a bit weird, I am baffled.

Check out that link, someone with similar problem, fixed.

Just scanned through that, and my problem seems different, I just tested and it works fine on my other drive.

There is nothing seemingly wrong with the recycle bin, my drive is not set to immediately delete files, they just disappear.

It seems the fix is as simple as going to recycle bin properties and make sure "Don't move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted." is unchecked.

That was not checked.

I went and bought another 500gb hdd today to replace the 320, so I have 2 500's now.

When I had finished copying the stuff off the 320 to the new 500, I could not even format the 320, got a windows error. Also when I took the 320 out, and tried to boot with the new drive in plus my old 500 which has windows on, it refused to boot. I had to do a repair, which it repaired, with a simple boot repair thing, could have been the MBR or something. Also the reason it would not boot is it said some component was missing.

The weird thing is, the 320 had a program files folder on it I could not delete. I originally had windows on the old 500, then switched to the 320 so I had a separate win and junk drive, so I decided to put windows back on the old 500. I had formatted the 320, in the setup before installing to the old 500, but when it did the first boot, there was a program files folder on the 320 even though windows was now back on the old 500.

I hope you can follow this. Anyway the 320 is out now, but as I said I cold not format it before shutting down to remove it, after copying everything from it to the new 500. As I could not format it, I will junk it.

Thanks for your help guys, and any ideas as to what was going on are welcome.

EDIT: Oh and the recycle bin works fine on the new 500, and there is no program files on it, as I just put it in and copied the stuff from the 320 to it, then unsuccessfully tried the format the 320, shut down and removed it leaving the 2 500's.
