I replaced my old 17"CRT monitor with a 22" LCD monitor Belinea B.display 4.1_22 wide. For optimal quality I connected the Belinea monitor via DVI.

My problem :

There is no DVI signal during boot (POST) till Windows starts.
Analog connected (vga) the boot can be followed on the screen.
Because I have to choose between different hardware profiles, I really need to see this boot sequence.

On different forums I read about the existing of this phenomenon, but nowhere have I found a solution.

My system: Dell Dimension 8400 (10/2004)
Graphics card: Radeon X800 SE

Already done
:
I loaded the latest computer bios upgrade (A09).
I loaded the latest Catalyst control center and Ati driver version.
In Catalyst, I activated in Digital Panel (DVI) attributes :
- Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays
- Alternate DVI operational mode

Extra information from Catalyst :
Driver Packaging Version 8.471-080225a1-059746C-ATI
Catalyst® Version 08.3

Graphics Card Manufacturer Built by ATI
Was the Radeon X800 SE card made for Dell by ATI, or only the Chip?

Graphics Chipset RADEON X800GT (? Shouldn't this be X800 SE?)
Device ID 554B
Vendor 1002
Subsystem ID 0302
Subsystem Vendor ID 1002
Bus Type PCI Express
Current Bus Setting PCI Express x16
BIOS Version 009.003.001.017
BIOS Part Number 113-A32102-103
BIOS Date 2004/06/11
Memory Size 128 MB
Memory Type DDR1
Core Clock in MHz 425 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz 351 MHz
Primary Display Yes

Has anybody a solution for this problem?

I DVI connected the LCD on another computer with Geforce card and the boot sequence was visible.

Many thanks for your help.

its not a driver issue as drivers arent present at post screen sounds like a bios setting somewhere although im not familiar with your board so cant really say anything more, try using your crt to access the bios and see if you can find anything that might help is all i can suggest

Got the exact same problem, only with 3870 card.

OP, did you change the card, was it faulty ? Iam tossing coin here, if the problem is with Mobo or the 3D card. Have to try to reseat the card to the mobo.

Hmmm, I had a similar problem (post screen never appeared, the after boot did) with a similar card (x700pro) and switching vc to the 8800gts solved my problem. For some reason the card would occasionally simply not let me see the post screen or even the bios when I tried to boot into it w/ my 22" (worked fine on my crt before).

If you can perhaps try to get another vc and see if the same problem persists. Thats all I can really think of.

Yep, gotta "lend" a card from work, see if the problem persists with another card.

It looks like your display-panel doesn't support VESA 320p resolution (the resolution at which information is displayed before boot).

^ Forgot to mention that the system has been working fine for 3 months now. No OC either. Will test with another 3D card after work, report back then.

Ok this started to bug me, as I tested my 3870 also at work and it worked fine. After lots of testing (BIOS updates, CMOS reset etc etc) I found out that my monitor DVI cable was broken somehow. I switched the DVI cable around and the POST/BIOS screen came again.

One of those WTF cases, but glad I did not RMA the card

It seems sam0t's problem is solved, unfortunately mine is still present.

In computer bios, the only video item is: Primary Video (pci or pci express), the last one is activated (as it should be, X800 SE is a pci-e card). There is nothing else to change.

I also noticed that when I connect the LCD to the dvi-connector and a CRT to the vga-connector (of X800 SE card), the POST can be followed on the CRT and at Windows start up the CRT goes black and the LCD lights up.

I guess the only solution that will help is a new video card.

And it will be a nVidia processor.

:nutkick:

p/s Many thanks for not helping me ATI.

I've had this same issue with my last motherboard. When powering up my machine it wouldnt display any post screens; but once windows loaded it worked fine and my display would come on. It didnt do this when I first got it....after awhile it started doing it, at first I thought it was failing to boot due to overclocking issues or cold boot MCH issues. I tried afew different cards and some would work perfect and others wouldnt work at all and then some would work sometimes.

The board was an Asus P5K Deluxe. I used the same DVI cable and same monitor. I didnt try using the analog connection(didnt think to try that). Theres the cards I tried:

HD2900xt - Wouldnt ever display the post screen or anything until windows was loaded where it worked fine.

HD2600xt - Didnt work when cold booted, I would wait until windows loaded then restart if I needed to get into the bios.

x1650 pro - always worked 100%

HD3870 - Pretty much the same as the 2600xt, It didnt work when cold booted but worked fine after that.

I had changed pretty much every setting I could in the bios and had no effect on this issue. I even replaced the CMOS battery. It was like the board's post wouldnt detect a videocard sometimes. Finally I solved this problem by upgrading to a new board....an Asus P5E ;) all the cards I've tested work fine so far. I would guess my old board was slowly dying.
