several months ago I attached a accelero twin turbo to my 9600GT. recently I occasionally have issues with my PC failing to pass POST and giving my the "no VGA detected" beep code.
Fans always spin up but the vga fans are connected with molex (the PCB uses a different header)
Normally once it gets past that stage the computer will just stay on perfectly fine. Except today when I went out to get dinner, I came back, the computer went to sleep. I woke it up by hitting random key on my keyboard. the fans started to spin again but there is no signal to the monitor.

I hit the restart button and i got the "no vga detected" beep code again. So I opened up my case to check the contact of the pci-e slot. it looks fine. I thought maybe I can try resit the card.

Now here is the serious problem. I can't remove the card because the HSF takes 3 slots, so I can't bend the thing that holds the card into the slot. I can't reach that thing from other angles either cos the ram slot, chipset heatsink, and a number of capacitors are in the way.

now my question is:
1) if the contacts between the card and pci-e slots are actually fine, could this be a sign that this card is on its way out?
2) when I will need to remove my card, will there be anyway to do so without breaking anything?

motherboard is ASUS P5QL-Pro http://img10.360buy.com/S0/452/2d895d8d-8a9b-4a5c-8806-4e43a51d9832.jpg

Slide a plastic knife or something in there. Pull on card and push down on knife at same time. It should let go.

I think you speratic problems are related to the fan not being connected to the PCB of the GFX card. You may want to look online about how to trick the card into thinking something is plugged in their with a resistor or something.

not without breaking off a capacitor or two, looks like i might need to try pushing the level with a thin screwdriver or something next time i take out the mobo

This is why I always go for slide locks instead of the bendy lever thingy on my Mobos. It is one of my "I am down to two I like that are only different in brand name. How do I decide?" specs. It is BS, but it helps when I can't make decisions between two items using fair, intelligent reasons.

P.S. If you still have the case upright, lay it down. For some reason that is easier to work with when removing things in tight places.

yeah, learnt my lesson now.
This PC is my first custom build, have made quite a bit of crappy selections now I look at it...
just look at where the 24-pin header is located on the mobo :shadedshu

its one of 3 things, 1: your video card is either a. dieing, or b. shorting out on the heatsink. 2: your PSU is failing or 3: your pci-e slot is garbage. im unsure which one it actually is but I'd say either card or psu but more than likey the card

hmm, No.1 looks most likely, just bought PSU couple of months ago and everything else seems fine.
I probably did something when slapping on the twin turbo, seeing that i don't have the gentlest hands and i didn't really know what i was doing...

arrrgghh can't get new card atm, they still haven't got the stuff i want in new zealand :banghead:
