no longer able to OC

well i have a small problem with OCing now and am wondering if anyone here nows what the problem could be (system specs in sig)
now I used to be able to run my Corsair Dominator twin2x2048 PC8500 ddr2 ram at 1066MHz but now i cant every time i set the speed in BIOS it fails to boot so i re-enter the BIOS setup and turn it down to ddr800 speeds and it's fine
timings used are 5-5-5-5-15-22 CR2 with 2.10V which is what the ram says to use

but it just wont boot anymore there's no beeps to say somethings failed it just powers on an sits at an black screen waiting... :wtf:

so anyone have a clue as to what's going on cos I don't and I've tried just about everything I can think of

I have to up the voltage on my Corsairs more than recommended to run at 1066

I read through the posts in toms forum but thats not my mobo mines an Socket am2+ M3A32MVP-Deluxe with AMD 790 FX / ATI SB 600 chipset which up untll a few day ago ran completely fine with the ram at 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 cr2 timings

maybe it's voltage thing I'll try upping the Vdimm voltage and see what happens

have you tried a bios update?? either way though for ram not to run rated, ESPECIALLY overpriced dominators, RMA that shit

I think your RAM has degraded due to OCing. Such can and will happen to any computing parts, especially CPUs although they degrade a lot slower.

Either RMA it or stick with what works. If you pump more juice to reach the same OC you used to do, it will only accelerate to degrade your RAM's quality.

Well that just friggin sucks

considering they aren't even a year old yet and OC101 they weren't as overpriced as the equivelent OCZ $97 bucks for two 1GB sticks here is an pretty good price so i picked up two kits

@ OC101 I have the latest Bios which is v2003 from asus I'm a bit of a nazi with stuff like that ie: firmwares, bios and drivers all have to be kept uptodate

hmm very strange according to corsairs web site the ram should be set to 2.2v not 2.1 as stated on the side of the dimms

Then it was just the voltage? I have mine set to 2.16 and they have been stable ever since I have set them to that.

Try with just one stick, then the other. Then run MemTest on each stick individually.

hey Erocker i already did that perhaps i should of stated it in the first post... so far all my testing is leading me to the conclusion that either the cpu's memory controller is going duff or the PSU is failing as i took a look in BIOS whilst i was there and the 12v rail stated it was at 11.43V which isn't great yet under windows with everest it states it's sitting at 12.10 while running F@H

you cant trust BIOS or software readings for voltages. use a multimeter or its just guessing.
