You may find the D15S to be a degree or two below the original in performance due to the lack of the second fan, but to many, the RAM clearance trumps that difference.

Shouldnt matter. Only real difference is the D15 comes with two fans and the D15S somes with one fan but a bigger gap in the middle to possibly fit a thicker fan.

If you care about the full potential out of the ram slots, Id go with the S model. If not, either or is fine.

Not only about that... the D15s is tilted more up so the upper pcie slot is free too.

It depends on your case. If the case has a cutout on the backside of the motherboard tray, then you won't need to remove the motherboard from the case. If you remove the back panel of the case and there is no cutout, then you will have to remove your motherboard.
