Northbridge Temps

My new Asus Maximus Formula has the PC Probe (tee hee) software that shows all sorts of temps. It also has alarms for high temps.

My question is this. The stock temp threshold for the Northbridge (and i think the SB) is 45c. Is this acceptable? I kept getting the Nuclear alarm while playing Hellgate for the NB being over 45c. I switched some fans around and it was then hovering at 45c and still getting the alarm. Would it be ok to up the threshhold to something like 50c?

I've got the P5K vanilla, and my NB idles at 45C. It goes up into the mid/high 50's when gaming. I simply set that alarm to 65C in PC probe (think that was the highest).

It's run that way for 6 months without issue. I'm not even running any extra voltage to the NB (plus I have a block on it)

teh chipset should handle 60c and live for a few years, easily. My old DFI's chipset ran upto 70c at times, and had the alarm at anything over 55c, but it never gave me trouble.
I slapped on some new thermal paste, lwoiered temps down to about 50-60c when gaming, and running overclocked, and it's working fine in my brother's PC.

yea i had a P965 DS3 and that was running 3.2ghz 24/7 and the NB was when gaming 65-70c.

but i forgot the name of the program i used im still looking for it does someone know any one that reads NB

cheers to that my dfi idles at like 50 and loads upto 65. thats lapped with arctic silver ceramic and active air..w0ot go dfi. but iv had no problems.

i think UP TO 50C is fine, i dont think i would risk running over that.

on my p35, NB was idling 40-42C, when i touched it i cudnt keep my finger on it comfortably so i wedged a 12cm fan inside the case underneath the hdd, 7v mod'd it and now my NB idles at 35C. an exhaust fan on the side also helps
atm its 30C but thats thanks to the bitterly cold weather!

awesome. I will definately do that. I had an Abit IP35Pro and I don't remember seeing any temps for the NB/SB so i didn't give it much thought.
