Not Ryzen this time! I have a 9600K, paired to an Asrock H370 mini-ITX board. I noticed that in has only ever reached 4.5GHz, never the rated max boost of 4.6GHz. Am I missing something, or is it an H370 limitation? I’m not seeing much in BIOS settings that would appear to help. I have it under a 130W tower cooler, and temps seem reasonable.

4.6GHz is the max single-core turbo clock speed. You are almost never going to see just a single core under load.

Shouldn’t I at least see it sometime, even if it is briefly? I’m using HwINFO, so it should be picking up the moments it hits 4.6? I’m not unhappy about the performance, it’s more a curiosity, especially since AMD just took such a beating over this issue. Sounds like at least some folks see their max boost on Ryzen.

You may have multicore enhancements on in the bios setting an all core to a 45x multiplayer. On a lot of mobos it is on by default or when you set XMP. Probably limiting the 46x single core multiplier.

The normal all core boost for a 9600k is like 4.3

It's been ages since I used an asrock mobo z67 era so I'm not 100% how it handles MCE on modern platforms.

I think you may be on to something, as I think I do get the 4.5 all core. I will mess around and see if there's something like that in settings. I'm not much of a fan of ASrock's EFI interface, but I grew up with AMI blue screen BIOS's. :)

I actually get more than the advertised by boost on 6 of my cores. Then again, I get under my advertised boost on the other 6.

I also am not much of a fan. This is my first ASRock board. I always read that their UEFI sucked but I didn't think it would really be problem. I was wrong. It really does suck.

EDIT:

That said, you may not have hit a workload for that 4.6ghz boost. How long have you had it?

About a month now. The 9600K was $199 plus the usual $30 discount at Microcenter with a board purchase. I wasn't expecting spectacular things from the board, but I needed mini-ITX for my V1 cube. At least everything worked plug 'n play, and there's dual LAN, AC wireless, and an NVMe slot. So far I've yet to crash it, so I'm not sweating that 100MHz too badly, though I don't want to leave any performance on the table either.

Edit: Hello, what's this? I did make one tweak in the BIOS. Instead of Max Turbo, I went will Max All-core, which seems counterintuative. Anyway, it looks like the mystery has been solved!

I've never owned an ASRock board, but you will probably be able to get your bus clock to an even 100MHz instead of 99.8MHz in HWinfo if you disable "Spread Spectrum" in BIOS if the option is available to you.
