Hello..need some advice as a friend is looking at buying a laptop for her wife which is looking to play sims 4.

I was just wondering if the GTX1050 2GB is enough to play the game with expansions at 1080p high settings with decent fps.

The budget is £500-700 and best deal i can find is around £650 for a 4GB version but from a manufacturer i've not heard of. There are 2GB versions from Asus and MSI that is priced about £650.

The CPU is going to be a pretty important factor (definitely want 4 threads preferably) but at high settings I don't see that 1050 managing the Sims @ full HD( it will run it, that 1050 is capable, but @ high settings at "decent" fps may be a stretch)If they were willing to turn down either resolution or graphical settings then I'm sure It could manage. The problem is decent frames is a very interpretive wording. I'd be concerned about heat though, because the Sims 4 is going to run a notebook hot, so you're probably gonna want some kind a cooler pad

The one with 4GB version has a i5 7300u which is a dual core with 4 threads:

The 2GB version has a i5 7300HQ which is a quad core:

I'm sure the two gig version will suffice, but I'm confident they won't be running it at full settings. they're going to have to make a sacrifice somewhere and ,you're definitely going to have to get them ,or have them get a cooling pad or some type of resolution to the heat.

Just for reference at 10:80 P my daughter plays Sims4 with all the goodies and with high settings....with a xeon& a gtx970, it handles it well but there's times when the frames drop when it rains or snows etc.

I think the one you picked out with 2 GB will work ,but with any notebooks thats not 100% gaming purposed, there's going to need to be some sacrifice

Being a noob with Sims 4 would it have a default preset on graphical settings like the standard Low,medium, high preset which would save me time to play around? As my friend has 0 knowledge with PC gaming when it comes to fiddling with graphical settings.

I will probably recommend it some point down future a cooling pad.

yes. if i recall correctly , it will also "auto detect" your setup, and determine its capabilities. the big ones are

where you see "custom" you can set it to low etc...notice "laptop mode" ;)

Yeah i figured there will definitely be sacrifice, most likely will let the game determine the settings and let them try it out and see how it runs,if they run into problems then i'm going have to fiddle with settings which isn't a problem.

Appreciate the help. :)
