Right now? 50/50...

You can always keep a look if it shows up here, although Nvidia doesn't seem to be very good at having their products PCIe certified.

Chances.. Ie: a guess, no one knows, it's a pointless question hence my reply, chances are you would think they will be pcie 4 though that's only an assumption based on the current situation and the fact that rdna is pcie 4 but until specs are confirmed it's all just guess work..

There is a good chance, but we have no information about it.

For gaming I wouldn't worry though, there is virtually no chance of bottlenecking.

the next nvidia gpu might be on pci-e 4.0 but that wont matter because current games might not utilize the available bandwith
you might see 1-2 fps difference. remember when agp 4x went to 8x on the geforce 4 ti4600 the difference was 1fps, same thing happen when agp 8x went to pci-e 1.0

NVIDIA doesn't want to compete with AMD and Apple for wafers from TSMC.

Also, PCIe 4.0 doesn't really matter unless the card doesn't have enough VRAM. Buy a card that doesn't skimp on VRAM and PCIe 3.0 is plenty.

I believe some representative from Nvidia said they would be using both TSMC and Samsung, but I can't find the original source. Does Samsung even have a node capable of producing 250-300W chips?

You should know better than this. NVIDIA and AMD doesn't compete with Apple for wafers. High power and low power parts are on different production lines using different nodes. Also, wafer supply agreements are done far in advance.

Also, PCIe 4.0 doesn't really matter unless the card doesn't have enough VRAM. Buy a card that doesn't skimp on VRAM and PCIe 3.0 is plenty.

It has more to do with how graphics use the GPU. I don't think even if you put 10x the memory on the board that it would necessary need the PCEe 4.0 bandwidth.

For one thing Nvidia and AMD don't compete for the low power 7nm wafers also I don't think Samsung's 7nm is on par with TSMC's and that's excluding EUV. Samsung has never been on par in high performance nodes and to be fair neither in low power (Exynos vs Qualcomm).

That being said, I doubt they would want to lose the process edge.

The importance of PCIe Gen 4 graphics has nothing to do with the need for graphics bandwidth - its really annoying to see articles try and make this the argument. While its true that under most circumstances Gen3 8X is barely saturated, the point is that a Gen4 card has the same bandwidth is Gen3 using only half the PCIe lanes from the CPU, freeing up more lanes for mass NVME storage or another GPU. So basically for the end user PCIe 4.0 is about an easier path to an HEDT platform.

So coming late to this thread lol, Gen4 is supported on Ampere's server grade A100 card, dunno about consumer 3000 cards, I really hope so. I think from nVidia's point of view if its easier for the end-user to have multi-GPUs rigs they would see that as a positive, even if its a niche market (GPU rendering, simulations etc).

Likely gen 4 because why not, its current and Nv is usually close on current tech with this. They were also pretty quick on 3.0 as I recall
