I think they look kind of stupid. I was expecting something more, other than just some LED lights and a Star Wars backplate. They're kind of lame, in my opinion....

Then again, I'm not a fan of LED on my builds.

Given the too much price, each card could be a special edition at will!
And if I was rich enough to buy them, I would not use such a miserable cooler for cooling. So it would all lose the visual purpose. I would use a liquidee cooled block. It would be more appropriate to give a complete game in a gift !

Stupid me, after windowed cases, now people buy full tampered glass cases, I would never have belived that two years ago....

Anyway, i would love some "real 80s nerd special edition hardware" for my next build:
green PCB
plastic slots
no RGB LEDs
just some boring green status LED on the board
square copper cooler with square standard size fan on top

If they are going to be following the Star Wars Episode 8 fan-wave in December, assuming NVidia is paying royalties to Disney and G. Lucas for this poor attempt at trying to resale more halo-based Pascal Units instead of popping out Volta, shouldn't the theme of both cards be like Jedis and First Order? Shouldn't the red LED version represent the First Order, now, and not the Empire which was crap that was current lore roughly 10 years ago? Am I the only member pondering this?

There is no reference to new lore. That probably cost extra Nvidia wasn't willing to pay.

This. I've come to greatly appreciate ingenuity in pc hardware because it's so hard to find. It's remarkable that the same product can be sold 20 different ways to appeal to every inch of the autism spectrum.

For me I feel bad that I sold my 6800 Ultra and X1800XT back in the day. Those are more collector's items IMO.

I'm still in shock from the Intel + Radeon GPU + HBM2 announcement, then this comes along and I keep frantically looking at a calendar to confirm that April 1st hasn't come way early.

I don't know what to think about this. My first reaction is that nVidia has so little competition on the high end that they can just jack around and release stuff like this. I don't mean that in an angry way, it's just... crazy.

I'm still stunned at the idea of $1200 designer computer hardware components. Computer hardware depreciates more rapidly than most anything else I can think of, it's not like ... I dunno a normal durable good. A Star Wars (or any) themed car is still going to be a fun and useful car in 10 years. A video card in 10 years... is someone going to buy one of these, NIB unopened or something? I... can't...

Like, initial knee jerk reactions aside - think of this at the "meta" level. nVidia having enough "slack" in the GPU market for the first time in years to just... play around and release a non-sensical "just for funzies" SKU for 1. 2nd you know people will buys these and... I guess I've never been in a position where I can just blow $2400 for a matched set for fun. My mind boggles.

Lastly... I still keep looking to see if it's April. lol.
