There is demand BECAUSE the 2000 series GPUs were so bad few people dared to upgrade at all.
Actually, 3070 and 3080 are NOT impressive compared to old launches. The 10 series was really impressive.

IDK, I just scored a 2080 Ti at a good price from a guy I know. I’m very impressed. Not sure what is supposed to be so bad about it.

This.

Also, the 30 series are not impressive because of the high initial promises that they don't deliver. Their advantage over the 20 series is extremely game specific, and in many scenarios, they aren't as efficient as nvidia's internal figures show. Sure, the 3080 is a bit faster than the 2080 Ti, but with double the cuda cores and a higher TDP.

Somehow I have a feeling that Ampere isn't a gaming focused architecture at all, which only brings my demand down. I'm also curious to see the fully unlocked chips with generous amounts of VRAM (if that happens).

For the right price, of course most things are fine.

Of course, that is certainly the case. Price can always help palatability. His post however just described them as bad.

Fair enough, I would not say that either.

I wouldn't have paid new money though initially.

Nor I! :) That’s why I only just now did it since it was being unloaded. I never thought what the 2000’s offered was good enough of an upgrade to buy new, which was why I carried on for the whole lifecycle with a Pascal.

Hopefully it'll serve you well, I bought my laptop a year in second hand, I simply didn't/don't have the money for top end new.
I love my lowly 2060 , I use it more than my rig now(tbf to my rig it's busy and a heater brrrr)

Their loss. I preordered an Xbox Series X. And a new 65" TV. The Series X is around the 3070 level of power at the same price, the FULL CONSOLE. I'll just wait for next year for the videocard upgrade. I'd get a PS5 digital before a new GPU. New consoles are really good value.

You pre order an XSX and you say its their loss? I think its yours...

You know, the dollar store has really good value too. It's just that nothing of what you buy there, actually lasts without having to buy more. You'll discover the similarities there soon enough. At least an old GPU can go to a next rig when you upgrade. At least your game catalog remains available on your PC when you upgrade. But come the next console upgrade, you get to re-purchase all those rehashes remakes and retextured samey games AGAIN. How long might it take? 3 years this time? You can look at the current gen for proof. Most of what's coming out for the next one, is a straight remake or even just a lazy port with an upscale. And that is after they re-released the last gen with 'better versions' of said consoles. Yep, you can upgrade within the same gen now. FOMO? No worries they got you covered.

Console gaming has never been good value. It just takes some experience to realize that. The great console days are long gone, and have been since halfway through the PS3 era, give or take, when they dragged that out way beyond expiry date and then started adding subscriptions.

Without actual numbers, this is pure hogwash. They just wanted to get these out before AMD, that's all.

And now AMD came out, with ZERO STOCK
Most will be waiting deep into 2021 according to retailers, for 6800 series. 6900 will be a halo product.

Meanwhile thousands of gamers are using Nvidia 3000 series ;)
