here's an idea; rather than release several thousand to each market so scalpers can soak them up and put them on ebay for 2-3x price like Nvidia and AMD have done since October. Delay the release, make tens of thousands for each market like a normal release forcing the price of cards like the RTX 3070 (and older RTX 2060 & 2070) down because they won't be worth the extra cost over the RTX 3060 and crashing the entire market on the scalpers heads.

Almost €1000 for RTX 3060Ti in stores here in Croatia. I expect 3060 will be reasonable €800.

Will be the same for Australian Dollars, Ti is around $1,000 currently, I expect the 3060 to be around $800 or slightly higher.

My 6800XT cost $864 US the day I bought it $34 above the MSRP. I have already made up that number in Mine Hash.

2. who cares, by the time anyone can get their hands on one for MSRP you will have 3060 super, RTX 4060, or their AMD equivalent cards coming out. Nvidia, AMD, and their merry band of AIBs have completely screwed up the market.

It's not the AIB's fault. It is the simple mechanic of supply and demand. Nvidia's messes our minds with their constant teases and ultra confusing launches. AMD has their entire lineup on the same node and launched 2 compelling consoles (at the same time). A few weeks ago there were RX 570 8 GBs available between 320 and 400 CAD they are all now gone which means the distributors have even exhausted slow (old) inventory. Bitcoin is at $47898 US. In a depressed economy that is a compelling reason to get into mining. Then you add all the nuances manifested throughout COVID. I keep saying it but the fact that every 3000 (that have launched) and 6000 series (so far) are all faster than the 2080TI. As a 3700X is still $400 (CAD) means there is no longer a perceived deal for budget mid grade Ryzen parts. Not that you can buy a 3600 for less than 270 CAD (Remember when the was $149). In fact AMD is only seen as value vs Nvidia in the eyes of people who still have Tahiti and Polaris cards (actually RDNA cards were not too shabby in price not too long ago).

The latter is true which is why we find the current state of the market. While the AIB's might not be at fault they certainly have done little to be part of the solution raising prices far above additional tariff rates.

You're right. The best solution is for nvidia and AMD to disable mining in hardware and create exclusive lines built for that purpose specifically.

I don't think that's possible,they have cut out most of the 64bit performance , 32bit is actually needed as are the rest of the architecture of a GPU, or they wouldn't be there, these designs are made primarily to game, not compute.

They already made compute monster card's , they're too expensive for miner's though obviously.

That seems highly difficult to do. How would the GPU detect that the operations correspond to mining? And how would they block it or reduce its performance to horrible levels without affecting what you would call "legit operations"?

I'd discard the drivers route upfront, since there are open drivers on Linux. And I doubt anyone is gonna introduce a counter-mining piece of code just because.

My guess is, by the time anyone waits for a review to see if they want this card or not, all cards will be sold and it won't matter. In other words, do not educate yourself on the hardware and it's performance, just buy, buy, buy!
