While the 8800 series is the only DX10 capable GPU available on the market, it is too expensive for the mainstream consumer. NVIDIA hopes to fix this issue by developing the G84 series. It is a clocked down version of G80 with less pipes, which means the G84 will be smaller then the G80. It should be available for around $200 to $250 USD, and will be available in late March or early April 2007. ATI (AMD) will not have any mainstream DX10 parts available at that time.

????? slow....

dx10 doesnt exist yet really......ATI always releases product after Nvidia...DX10 will not really be mainstream for a while yet..(years really)...so why bust out a bunch of new product when you dont need too..we all have heard the issues 8800 owners have now....let Nvidia users find the bugs in DX10 so us ATI users won't have them...if ATI and Nvidia wait till mid summer for their mainstream line, DX10 will still be a baby......Cards that come out next fall/winter will be the cards to own....

Simply put, let NV be the lab mice lol

DX10 won't be mainstream in years? I don't think so though, I'd expect DX10 to be used in games in the following year after R600 release, 2008.

Ya, it's always better to own the refresh of high end parts (R680 anyone?), core optimizations, further tweaks and so on. I'd much more impressed with the performance and cable-less crossfire with my X1950PRO, compared to my previous X1800XL (albeit the X1800XL had software voltage controls).

maybe im just impatient

im not knocking ati/amd being behind nvidia. i know there are reasons for it, both financial and strategical, its just as a consumer with an ati chipset on his motherboard ive got to wait forever until i can play crysis with dx10!!!! not that it is worth spending all that money just to play one really nice looking game, imo.

let's face it. its impossible to keep up with it all.

not only that but it seems to be tough to find good ati/3200 mobos these days...you really only have 939 boards to choose from...trying to find a extreme style AM2 board with 3200 is about impossible....you can find AM2 3200chipset mobos, but off brands with bad reviews....

And forget about owning any C2D and wanting to go crossfire to its fullest.....ATI has great ideas, physics, dongless crossfire, but somehow the products to do it are lacking.....thats what makes me look at Nvidia card specs daily now...nvidia has way more selection...:rockout:
