Hello to all, I'm new here and this is my drama :
I recently bought a brand new XFX 8800gs Alpha Dog Edition 384MB, just to find out that it wouldn't work with my MSI Via PT890 MoBo.
Well, after reading hundreds of posts I discovered that flashing it with a 9600GSO bios it could work (I read both are the exactly the same with different names because of marketing issues ), so I finally did it, and voila! my pesky mobo recognized it as a 9600gso of course. My happiness didn't last too long, though. When I downloaded and tried to install the latest drivers (the CD woulndt catch it) just runned the whole instalation process but after rebooting still had the crappy generic vga display drvs from xp. Yes, I used driver sweeper to clean the old ones, and when I tried manually to update the drivers, XP detected the card, but after all the installation process was finished, the display went crazy, flashing around, many artifacts and stuff.
I even tried omega drivers but wouldn't recognize the card either. Could it be possible to fool WINXP by changing the videocard ID to install the original cd drivers? (Nibitor??) Do I have to reinstall WINXP (I have Win XP Pro 32 bits with SP3) or can I reflash it with another manufacturer bios (XFX sucks btw)? Any help, please? Sorry for my bad english.
My system is :
MOBO MSI VIA PT890
PENTIUM 4 HT PROCESSOR (PRESCOTT)
XFX NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800GS (FLASHED WITH 9600GSO BIOS) ALPHA DOG EDITION 384 MB RAM
1 GB KINSTON VALUE RAM
200 GB SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200 RPM
LG DVD-RW SUPERMULTI
