Software my favorite World of Tanks :) is that a software?? :)
that must be some new fancy name for reference card ..
and from what ive seen who ever buy founders card, all they do is paying extra money to already way to expensive gpus...whyyyyyy????
for the last several generations of gpu´s it was always that reference card are cheaper then the third party one!!
why would you pay extra money now?!?!? i gues nvidia just need more money!!..,but that aside..,here in belgium i gues that is not the case....
and what was the price they sad the card will be released with...,didnt they say its going to be cheaper hen 980ti?? it doesnt look like that to me...
im guesing its going to be the same with 1070...
370$ when i convert it do euro and add 21% ist just a bit below 400€ ,but my wild gues is that its going to be more like 470€ or more!! we will see...

One good thing from this is that I haven't seen an AIB card priced over $699... Yet.

why pay more? theres really only 2 causes for the 100$ extra, first is the machined aluminum shroud, and 1 before AIB releases. but yeah for budget builds they are not worth. its more cosmetic or e-peen thant enything else.

Actually no...the true reference ones, like on the 780, 780 Ti and 980, for instance, with the magnesium alloy shroud have always been on the expensive side, and stayed more expensive after AIB models came out.

The aftermarket "reference" cards that had plastic shrouds and cheaper fans and less effective heatsinks inside were the ones that were cheaper.

It's just important to differentiate the two different reference types. These founder's editions are of the first type of reference card, with magnesium alloy (not aluminum).

Who cares about the bloody magnesium case?! It's not like you're going Tour da France with it. It would be just as good if it had plastic casing for as long as the fan is of decent quality and will last long enough. The fact they made reference cards cost more, they inflated custom design cards even further. Who's going to sell BETTER cooling solutions for less than the crappy reference one where you pay frigging magnesium that has no real functionality? No one. Except it seems to be everyone because people are stupid.

I hear you, sir, but alas, in your desire to rage, you missed the point. The metal reference cards have always been more expensive, while the plastic ones cheaper.

The OP made a blanket statement that all reference cards have been cheaper until now. I merely sought to highlight the fallacy of that statement.

To be sure though, the higher cost reference have NEVER been $100 more, and that is worth getting worked up about.

as rtwjunkie says the metal reference are more expensive, people treat them like collection items.
to counter your point AIBs are really going to price their card cheaper some examples from evga.
http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-5180-KR 609$ (stockish)
http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-6181-KR 619$
http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-6286-KR 679$ (FTW edition bigger vrm and RGB lights)
http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-6180-KR 699$ founders edition

zotac showed an stockish 1080 with plastic case thats going go cost what nvidia said 599$

but yeah last generations where something like 30-50 premium. and several customs board ended up costing way more.

I think they were trying to take advantage of the people who will pay higher prices to get the cards on launch day. Remember AMD's last launch? The retail outlets gouged consumers on the price. I think nVidia is just gouging prices before they hit the retail channels so that they can pocket the cash instead.

As much as i get hyped for new gcards when they come out. As i have a 780ti that was my new card getting back into pc gaming few years back. Before that i was running a 3dfx card back in the 90's shit im old. Still happy with the 780ti for the mo runs most games in ultra. :)
