Nvidia Geforce 10 naming specutation

I was just wondering what everyone thought Nvidia would name the Geforce 10 series, i am thinking they might dump the Geforce name

Well, It would be very interesting if they called them the "Diamond" series. In wedding anniversaries, 10th year = diamonds. Just some speculation on my part. Pretty much just speaking out of my butt.

EDIT: A Diamond GT, GTX, GTS etc. I think you got my point though.

no company has ever named anything with five digits(that i know of)... the 10800? Marketing people stop functioning after the fourth digit. I totally agree, ive said the same thing... I bet the reason that they skipped 8900 and went straight to 98## is because there will be no 10 series, its gonna be a new naming scheme altogether and they wanted to launch the next-gen cards using the new scheme...

everything is always 9800xt/Gt/GX2, Q6600, Voodoo 5000, AMD 6400+...

It would explain why the 9### series is such a let down, if all theyre trying to do is run out the series on the die shrink versions of the g80 design.

I think they should do the NV GFX series... and start back with single digits to recall the original GF, GF 2 days...but is probably pretty lame..which is why I am not in the business of naming hardware hehe.

well if it truely is next gen with like 2x9800GTX performance then i reckon a really cool name is in order.

especially since it will be geforce 10 too..... man theyve come along way since the geforce 256 i used to have.... and man i remember living off gef 2 mx 400's for aaages.

They definitely need lot's of X's in it. Everyone knows having a bunch of X's in a name makes it like, render faster and boosts the 3dmark score by the 1000's (i.e. 9800XXXXXTXXXXX2X XTX SPECIAL TRIPLE X Version).

In all seriousness though, I wouldn't be surprised if they used a combination of letters and numbers in a more tasteful way... something like nVidia nVision 700xt.

This is true, and someone should have gotten fired for that... They missed their chance to rename their cards with the G80 launch. They should have just dropped the 00's in the first place, as theyre totally unnecessary... someting like the G80 GTX would have been totally fine...

well lets hope this time they name it something truely awesome and inspiring.

what will really interest me is how many gigaflops the geforce 10 can churn. if you take a look around the net and see jsut how many places and companies use rackmount tesla's, Quadro's, or even jsut 8800GTX's for their bulk computational power, then if the next card has at least 256 sp's it will be immensly popular. CUDA FTW!!!

also still waiting on nvidia CUDA physics.....

I agree with ya there...they should simplify the card titles into shorter titles...more to the point.

Where they go beyond that, it could go many places...numbers could then be thrown back into the mix..maybe even different letters...they could go with Roman Numerals for a while to change things up a bit...they could have the core number in after the X like you state there phan...like this:

NVidia GF X100-GTX

Personally I'd like to see something along the lines of one of the ones I listed...more basic, yes a little rough, but straight to the damn point!

EDIT: And maybe they could get rid of the GeForce name altogether...doubtfully and that'd be kinda weird though...

well recently i have been referring to all nvidia cards by the GPU name, i.e G73, G80GTS, G92GT, NV40 etc. so why not G100GT, G100GTX etc...it works.

i guess technically its G92-270 and what not, but just the family (ie G92) and a suffix (ie GT) would be cool i reckon.
