An other article found qouted from the same Forum. Saying that Whispers from Thermaltakae and Cooler Master both saying that Femi is more powerful than the 5870 but not the 5970.

Also that the heat is huge. And Femi is having a great deal of problems with it.

So it looks like if rumors are meant to be believed..... ATI might keep the performance crown until Nvidia can find away to come out with a GTX395.

My previous points has been... that Femi will beat a 5870 but not the 5970. So I thought it usefull to post. Although I did notice the fact it was from TPU. So I know it's not real unless they are just using a similar format to express their point.

the graph is obviously from the HD 5970 review also since the HD 5970 is what's highlighted in green, plus the "GTX 380's" bar should be closer to the HD 5970's length with only 5% difference. instead its just as far from the GTX 295's bar which is 9% slower.

Logically, by doing the maths, GTX 295 is better than ati 5870 and it is impossible for the GTX 380 to be less powerful than 5970.

its not impossible its very likely you forget the gtx380 has some of its power stripped away just to keep it from overheating and to keep it with the proper power envelop

we wont see a real GT300 and what it can really do till we see the die shrink later on

not exactly the 5970 easily overclocks to the 5870 clocks just AMD played it safe to make sure they could ship more of the card ie lower clocks means more chips pass the test more get shipped out the door but at the end of the day i havent heard of a SINGLE 5970 that didnt reach 5870 clocks and thus 5870 crossfire

and lowering clocks is not NEARLY as bad as actually stripping out shader processers because you cant contain the heat or power draw and your using a dual gpu design agains a single gpu if Nvidia cant contain the heat and power of a single gtx 380 how will they manage to create a new gtx 395

basically 5970 can be overclocked to 5870 speeds on both gpus and has all the specs of 2 5870s

the GTX380 had some of its cuda cores as nvidia called them taken away you can mod in something thats no longer there

think of it this way Fermi was SUPPOSE to have 512 cuda cores now it only has 448 cuda cores now i wonder how much of a hit did fermi really take lose that many cores ive no doubt in its true form the GTX380 would be a 5970 considering fermis die is 2x as large or there about as a 5k series die but im fairly sure we wont see a fermi with full 512 cuda cores till the revision i expect the GTX 385 to easily beat the 5970 but not till then i would say a comparitive loss of cores would be the example between the gtx 280 and the gtx 260 in terms of performance if my hunch is correct the loss of performance on the GTX 380 is similar to the different between a GTX260 196 and the GTX 280

Not true, the 448 SP's are for the tesla versions of GF100, we don't know if the real GT300 will have it's original designed 512 SP's or same with its tesla brother.

stronger or weaker, the 380 should be very close to a 5970 performance wise, but being single GPU(less headache), and much much shorter in length.

All it matters is its price.

last i checked tesla gpus were the SAME as there desktop brethren much like the quadro gpus are the same as there regular consumer parts all that tend to be different is the amount of ram avaible to the gpus clock speed and support for issues that arise and then again if Nvidia didnt have to cut down the gf 100 aka the 512 to 448 why are yields so low why is heat such and issue and why oh why is it taking so long to get good yields to release to the public ??? hmmm??? just messing with its true no one knows for sure but so far in my experience

Quadro Tesla and Geforce are all built off the same die with the different being ram and drivers example the ati 3850 can be flashed to a firegl card aka at the time $175 gpu flashed and perfroms exactly like a $2300 gpu same goes for nvidia but they actually hardlock the gpus so you cant do that

FYI, more memory capacity in this case require more DDR chips, which resulting much more heat output, for the consumer products it might not have to cut down to 448 SP's if heat is the issue.

i am calm i was giving my thoughts on it and even with more ram usuall clock speeds on quadro and tesla gpus are far lower then there geforce counter parts but essentiall besides the ram amount there typical the same and again you may be right but i still look at it as the fact that they didnt have a working prototype till this last show the cards 3 months away roughly has heat issues in one flavor or another and had to be cut back again in one flavor or another meaning at this point while its still up in the air things are not as promising as i would like them to be

and i agree all that matters is price but in terms of price ive never known Nvidia to be cheap example prices of the GTX 275 285 and 295 compared to the 5k series if the nvidia cards had been cheaper i might have grabbed them instead simple because folding on ati gpus is not cost efficient

Here in Australia 5800 series are much much more expensive than it in the US(so is the price in a lot countries other than the US), 5870 costs 600AUD+ shipping when it first released,and my two 275's only cost me 490 AUD (one of them was 2 month old second hand thro.) And 275 in SLI are like 15% better than a 295, and a 295 is like 20~25% better than a 5870 except no Dx11 support. Not to mention my case won't be able to fit even a 5870 without modding let along the mighty 5970.....
I'm not talking down the 5xxx cards, they are decent indeed, low temps good performance except too long..if the price were right I would have got myself one already..ahhh wait, actually I wouldn't, I forgot ATi cards do not support Nv drivers.
