i don't think i will buy it, maybe after 3-~ revisions . . . :D
geforce fx5800 maybe failed, but fx5900 is not bad, still it can compete with r9800

I can actually see NVIDIA repeating what they did with the GTX2x0 cards in which they came out hot and powerful and then they released the 55nm versions. I can see a GTX485 coming out in due time and they will probably do well. That is the main thng I have against the GTX480: it's so damned hot!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 320 Watts!

Thank you NVIDIA, my GTX 280 is no longer the hottest single chip GPU around :toast:

The load sound/wattage would go down if they'd drop the 2D voltage. Only 0.03V drop from load is tiny, the card would happily work with 0.89V or 0.1V drop in desktop (and most likely even less).

GTX 470 will be interesting, with it's core/shaders being so slow in comparison wattage will also go down and OCing range will go up. Overclocked GTX 470 will have the GTX 480 performance but lower price than HD 5870 making it a good buy.

But OCd GTX 470 will most likely tickle the 300W barrier as well.. One less SM and couple memory chips less won't have that much of effect.

If stock GTX 470 is same 250W (or less) on peak, then it's a contender for next graphics card in the future. If not then GTS 450, but it might not be any faster than my current card :ohwell: Well there is always ATI, but 5850 only brings 10% performance boost and 5870 is too expensive, so I'm good for next few to 6 months :)

My 5870 is 0.95V idle and 1.15V under load which is .2V drop. My CPU does that same drop so why can't the GTX480 do that?

I can see that is a BIOS problem though rather than driver issue. I suppose some clever bugger could use NiBiTor to edit the BIOS to bring that down a bit.

Man that was a total let down sure its slightly ahead in the single card area but its nothing major for the price and that power consumption is ridiculous for a single card!

They promised some sort of monster so it should have beaten the 5970 or equalled it from all that hype.

The 5870 is pretty expensive but right now dang the 5850 looks pretty good for the price.

I know argueing in forums is immature, but I just want you to see my point. Guru3D used the newer 10.3 drivers and said they did because they are so much better, and because of that the GTX480 was slaughtered by the 5870.

Uhh. How is the GTX 480 slaughtered when it is consistantly 10-20% faster than a 5870 benchmarked with 10.3a performance drivers. Guru3d came to the same conclusion that GTX 480 regains the performance crown, but with excess of heat.

From what i saw it did regain the performance crown but not significantly enough, from what i can see you get 10-20frames per second over the 5870 and that all depends on the game and resolution for example on Unreal Engine 3 its pretty much going good then other engines its only 5 fps faster.

Who wants to pay the extra for that? Add in the ridiculous heat and power consumption just like Pantherx12 said.

Again you guys bitching about the review drivers have no damn clue what you are talking about. I suggest you pull up a chair and let the big boys discuss this new GPU.

No clue?

Cmon man we have plenty of "clue" that's why we're bitching.

This reminds me of when kellogs say their diet cereals help people loose weight, when in reality its just because their studies were done with 30g of diet cereal vs 50g of regular cereal XD

Its misleading is the important point mailman, so our complaints are justified.

Uh well i thought it wasnt worth its price based on this review.

I dont know why people are talking about other reviews since this is the thread for this review. Your supposed to discuss the product based on this review.

I still think the 5850 is a really good card for the price, if it went sub £200 it would be great and i could afford one lol.

:) Knew it.

So whos still buying a 480? At $499+ (More like $549), the 5870 seems a lot more appealing now doesn't it? :D

Well with the GTX470 performing the same as the HD5870, particularly better in DX11, with a projected $50 less in price...no the HD5870 doesn't seem a lot more appealing...

So I should read a review that pits 3 month vs current software up against each other? Uninstall plz. Troll out.

Yes, read the review MrMilli posted. In the end, the GTX470 was equal with the HD5870, sometimes slightly behind sometimes slightly ahead, really ahead in DX11. The HD5870 goes for $400+, the GTX470 is supposed to retail for $349(I would expect $400 pricing in the first few weeks though).

uh so the gtx470 is better than the HD5870 and its cheaper. REALLY.

The HD5870 wins with power consumption for sure though, but really I don't care. If I cared about power consumption, I wouldn't have an HD4890 or GTX285.

Cool looks like a winner then. If thats true then the GTX 480 looks like its terrible in price to performance compared to its compatriot the GTX 470.
