I never understood this obsession with low noise. For me, they could let the fans spinning at 200% all the time.

This thing of fan curve, smart fan and etc... All these things are useless to me. If you want to get the lowest temperature possible then just let them run at full all the time. Lifespan!? Please, a fan is too cheap, just buy another and make them happy.

Noise disturbs your sleep? Just get an earplug, it is cheaper than a low noise function.

The good thing is they let the users choice if they want "less noise" or lower temperatures by disabling those useless functions.

instead of making it more complex why not just take the fan out altogether and make it into passive card? just make the card able to sustain very high temperature.....as high as 150c. that would be a good start.

anyway next titan confirm?

Dude you're either funny or trolling or you actually mean it. :))) If that's the last one, I would suggest to go back to school from time to time, especially to physics and chemistry classes ;)

Absolutely do not want this feature. I hate things that cycle on and off, just leave it at 10%. This is going to be the cause of early death for TITAN X cards, when the fan starts not wanting to spin.

You should probably go to an English class from time to time too.

If they send enough current to the fan to spin up initially it shouldn't be a problem.

IMO it's a useless feature. Since most of the time the case/cpu fans are louder anyway.

he doesnt mean that, he means the mechanical stress of starting up all the time - once friction starts or a bearing wears out, it'll rapidly decline.

Then of course you have people who fire up a game without Vsync and get 9001FPS, and the card is suddenly at 100C before the fan kicks in.

Hopefully with MSI AB the minimum fan % setting will have an effect if this feature hits retail.

That is kind of ridiculous. Ear plugs are really annoying and I hate wearing them. Also, the shrill of loud fans could hurt your long term ability to hear well.

I do agree people can be a little over zealous in their pursuit of silence, but to me its a matter of trade offs. I would rather have a quieter system.

To whomever was saying they would rather have 10% fan speed, I would be worried that the fan can spin down that low. Some fans click or don't run properly when below a certain voltage.

I would rather have a quieter system.

Yes, and that matters the most at heavy loads when fan-off mode matters the least because all fans are on ... too bad that being able to turn fans off at idle doesn't make the card quieter at load than the same card with traditional fans.
Seeing how effective Maxwell chips generally are, it only needs to be quieter then the loudest fan in the rest of the system at idle.
Now, if all the fans in the system were stop'n'go, it would make much more sense.

I think some of you didnt notice "tweakable" word in the topic. I think its great, that anybody can adjust the fan to own preferences. Wanna run it 100% 24/7? - here you go. Want it quiet? - here you go. Cant go wrong with that way of thinking.
For me, personally, silence in my rig is one of main concerns. That is exactly the reason why i chose MSI's 980 over Gigabyte's windforce cooling solution. That is also the reason I chose EVGA Supernova G2 PSU over others. I like the feature of fan=off when not in stress. I like quietness of my rig when I dont use it for playing games. So even though I have 5 case fans, most of them will be stopped by my MoBo when I dont need them to spin. So does both fans in GPU and one in PSU. After that, the only audible noise in my rig are 2 HDDs (that will spin down eventually as well), so nobody will convince me that slow-spinning fan is unaudible.
But again - its best to have an option to go either way, right?
Good for NV to implement it in their next (pointless and overpriced) Titan ;]

Still remembering that time when nVidia made a driver that burned out your GPU by futzing with your fans, I can't help but imagine all the ways this is going to go horribly wrong.

If it works and is something they are intensely focused on making NOT go wrong, then this could be a great feature.

I can't wait to hear what branding they give it.

nVidia Fanworks featuring nVidia Rotationworks technology? nVidia NoRotation technology? nVidia SilentFan technology? nVidia ZeRotation Technology?

"nVidia Coolworks featuring nVidia's ZeRotation Technology and nVidia's own Fanworks custom control button." Yes. That'll be it.

Some MSI cards already do this. My MSI 7790 stops the fan when the card is in 2D mode although firing up any application with hardware acceleration (chrome, Videostudio, VLC, etc) makes it spin again.

My HD7950 runs at so low RPM it doesn't even matter if the fans are on or off, they are absolutely silent either way lol.

It's just an arbitrary % number. Whatever a reasonable, reliable low rpm for the fan is.

Seems like a cool feature for people who don't remove the cooling shroud to fit a waterblock.

It won't be of any use to me though, what I could use is MOAR leaks about this new Titan, I've been completely satisfied with my purchase and I look forward to replace them with new tech :toast:

Why not just make a custom fancurve. All cards can do that. My 7770, 7970, 770, and 280x have all had a custom fancurve that turns on the fan at 65c. It's not hard to do in afterburner or EVGA precisionX.

I've already got fan off technology on my titans. It's called watercooling :D
