No, we understand. Just buy an EVGA and Step up if you always upgrade. I use video cards until they blow up or don't run my games anymore. Do I personally think the GTX 680 is worth it? No. I'll wait for massive price drops when ATI releases a new card or my GTX 480 Blows up.

Following the 7970 price drop....

In context to my mini title yes, the GTX 680 is way overpriced at least here in the UK. Given the TPU review (http://tpucdn.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_680/images/perfrel_1680.gif) puts the 7970 at 92-96% equal to the 680, the recent price cut of the 7970 puts the 680 in exceptionally bad pricing territory.

Most 7970's are now under £400 in the UK. The most expensive (mine ) is £515 and that's an overclocked watercooled card.

I see many GTX680's well past £500.

The price is terrible for the performance improvement now AMD have price reduced. Even the prestige of being fastest card isn't validating the price now as it doesn't always beat the 7970 in some titles (graphically intense DX11 titles).

If review scores are re-assessed to reflect pricing you'd see a major swing in favour to the 7970 I think.

I would add though that I think NV will price drop the GTX 680 soon after the 690 releases or most definitely when GK100/110 comes out.

And though I am now an AMD owner (bye bye 580 ) I am not in any way a fannerist (new word) of any side.

Don t know if I can call myself an ATI/AMD fan...for sure I prefer their products in comparison to the NVIDIA ones...do not call me an idealist...I have ever refused to accept the NVIDI$ closed apis proposed and diffused like "standards"...and here I am referring to the well know plagues named as CUDA and PHYSX.
I am a software developer and a politician at first...I can t accept certain garbage that makes technology and progress being stucked for the one well known (the same ever) cause: MONEY $$$

It seems prices are dropping fast in the last week...this however does not justify the nvidia and amd selling (hungry) policies...I still remember I took my 6970 at launch and it was priced 360 euros...hm...were not we enjoying the worst recession ever?

I genuinely have no agenda and find your post a tad cheeky. I don't look for things that match my point. If you look earlier in the thread i supported the 680 price. However, as more (especially custom) cards are releasing they are creeping way up past the initial pre-order prices of about £420-440.

I understand custom cards cost more but to jump past £500 is silly.

Where are the easily available £400 cards?

It is an italian shop, the price then is in euros.
Prices for the 7970 here in italy are around 400 apart some special offers like the one I took before it expired.

I am really sorry you are taking with no serious consideration the evidence of five facts reported here:
1. both amd and nvidia companies did overprice their "flagship" cards in order to earn money as much as possible from their biggests fans.
2. nvidia this time turned back in terms of architectural strategies; they made a mere 3d graphics card still bounded to the "old style" rasterization approach.
3. nvidia is still using their best tactics as ever - they are paying big and creative companies like Epic games to promote their hardware - nothing illegal here - in this probably intel may still teach everyone on this planet.
4. nvidia gtx 680 is (as just reported here at least twice) only 10 % (if a similar simple comparison may be made) powerfull over the radeon 7970 counterpart and still lacks of a good gpgpu output - you may give a look (if you still did not) at the directcompute results for instance.
5. nvidia makes you pay some cash more over the 7970 - probably because like they are just saying they did a very good job with this gpu and the effort for making this possible was so long - long as building Rome? As for the records did they say something similar right?

And instead writing I am trolling here "whatever this new coined term means" you should write your opinion and maybe try to "defend" your point of view - forums were made for this.
