Hi,

I recently built a secondary gaming rig for BF3 multiplayer and am having bad luck with the graphics card.

System specs are:

Intel i5 2500K
Asus P8Z68-V LX Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600mhz ram
PCPower & Cooling Silencer 600watt PSU
ASUS GTX560Ti DirectCUII 1GB Graphics card

Computer is perfect but after playing BF3 for a minute or two there is terrible black tirangles/screen tearing making it unplayable. A lot of people appear to have the same problem with the GTX560 card... heres some examples of what it looks like on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5svi_FTN1W8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPCiqHL7chU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfSu-zFR2Ak&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_Z2n--aRUI&feature=related

The card only runs at 58c maxxed out during the game

- I've tried 3 different nvidia drivers and
- I have tried underclocking the card to 700mhz to no avail.
- Ive tried Vsynch on & off
- Ive tried taking off AA completely

I think im just going to send this back to ebuyer and get an HD6950 2GB card instead unless anyone here has a fix.

HELP :)

That look like gpu artifacts but it's strange for a new card .
6950 2GB should be better anyway for bf3 and other games that use more than 1gb of vram like that.

This happened to me, when i owned an Inno3D GTX 560Ti 1Gb, i got massive artifacts (not only in BF3), in NFS The Run i got much errors but in other games everything was just ok. I sold it and i got a 6970 instead... More people has this issue (get over to forums.nvidia.com and you will see)

The card was great, played everything so smooth, but the issue with the drivers (or maybe it's a card issue) just drove me crazy, so i just sold it... Now with my 6970 everything runs fine, but the temps are a little high compared to the 560Ti (in full load 6970 - 85C/90C , and the 560Ti 50/55C max)... If you change the card with an 6950 go for the non-reference cooler...

if u haven't got a new gfx yet twicksisted, than try out Driver 290.53 Beta bcs it should fix bugs for BF for 400 and 500 series.

Key Bug Fixes

Fixes some random instances of triangular artifacts when playing Battlefield 3 (fix is now enabled for GeForce 400 and 500 series GPUs).
Fixes a default panel resolution/ timing bug in 290.36.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Yeah, I thought there was a driver ofr bios release that helps resolve this in BF3...

ill have a look at that a bit later, the nvidia drivers are so huge, take long to install, then BF3 takes ages to load up and get into a multiplayer game... think ill do it over some beers later as i cant be arsed to go through all that pain again just yet :D

By the way dropping the gfx settings to high and taking off AA seems to have fixed the problem even though i was getting 50-65fps @ Ultra & 4X AA 1650x1050 res.

think im just going to have to send this back and get a card with more VRAM like the 6950 before i throw the card out the second floor window :D

There's nothing wrong with the reference cooler. You just need to set up a decent cooling profile in MSI AfterBurner and your 6970 should never go over 65C. My 6950 flashed to 6970 never goes over 65C ever.
560Ti's are pretty nice cards. The issues that the OP is having is not a GPU issue it's a game coding issue + a driver issue.

That's definitely a driver issue (and people claim that Nvidia has no driver problems hah! ). I had similar issues with Crysis, and an updated driver fixed all problems with the game.

Sure seems like BF3 is quite the buggy game.

Now i'm using ASUS GPU Tweak and the card never reach 80C in BF3, and in other games rarely hit 70C... I was thinking to change my 6970 with the 6870x2 but i'm waiting till march/april to get a cheaper 7970 :p

why do you need more vram if you are playing at 1650 X 1050? If you were playing at 1920 X 1200 or above then I would understand. Anyways the new beta driver has supposedly fixed the black triangle issue.

Oh noes, I have the same card. Have you noticed the artifacting in single player at all as I haven't seen any yet in any games?

Also,(not that you should have to) but have you tried raising the voltage slightly? Either way I would return it as I have seen no artificating on mine and it's the exact same card bought at pretty much the same time as you from Ebuyer.

Using MSI Afterburner to monitor the card, all of the VRAM gets quickly used up when playing multiplayer with Ultra quality settings in BF3 and the tearing issue only happens when i start to run out of VRAM in BF3.

Also, I will be upgrading my 24" soon and will put that screen on this rig when I do. 1GB VRAM is very 2009 :D

Only game on that PC at the moment is BF3 and I dont play single player games myself. It isnt my main rig but setup for my GF and friends to game on.
