Following on the success of the Fermi architecture in first the 4xx- and more recently the 5xx-series of GPUs, Nvidia will be releasing the first of their new Kepler GK1xx based GeForce 6xx-series cards in 2012Q2. The first card to be released by Nvidia will be the stop-gap GeForce GT 680 in February, previously rumored to be called GeForce GTX 680.

Today we get a look at the GK110 GPU, which will power the GeForce GTX 680 or GTX 780. While the resolution is quite low and detail has been removed from the picture, we can see GK110-??-A2 printed on the heatspreader. This confirms that not only is GK110 silicon in existence, but that it is already maturing and on its second (A2) revision...

Help me understand why I should care.

What does a die cover show you?
What performance metrics are given?
A revision of A2 means something, which I understand. How many revisions do you actually think there will be before production?
Do you think it would be difficult to silk screen numbers onto a die? It isn't.

So, yeah. A blurry picture of the die means nothing. The random information about performance levels, and the corresponding number scheme, mean nothing. Wake me whenever there's something worth while.

If everything goes well with this revision, I expect it to hit right at the beginning of Q2 with more than enough quantities available.
