Though I am already using nVidia, I voted no... because I haven't considered either freesync nor gsync when making purchases. It would be interesting to get a freesync monitor now though, I guess...

It's the other way round for me, maybe they can help weed out the good FreeSync displays from the bad. It's always been a case of quantity over quality.

another interesting choice would be

Q.) Knowing Nvidia will support "G-Sync Compatible" (FreeSync/Adaptive-Sync) monitors are you still willing to pay the added cost of a G-Sync monitor

I voted yes because I planned to get low cost Freesync this year 1080p 144hz and wit the 2060 FE being £329 here I am almost 100% decided I am going to switch back to team green for the first time in 4 years. Radeon VII is nice but waaay out of my budget, and I already played with a Vega 64, and I would like to try RTX. But the Freesync thing sealed the deal.

The answer to that question will be directly tied to how many monitors they actually support. What is it now, 12 out of 400 tested? I would be willing to guess those 12 are the most expensive Freesync monitors when I bet most of the Freesync monitors sold are of the cheaper variety, myself included.

You can enable FS on any monitor with an override. those 12 are just certified and "enabled by default".

Yeah, that was in the other article, but also were reports that the non certified monitors were not working that great.

They'll need freesync profiles for each manufacturer/panel implementation in the driver. That's not the case right now. Many freesync are narrow band 40-60Hz, but can be tweaked to 30-75Hz. That's one of the benefits of the gsync module(s), you know exactly how vrr is going to behave.

Yeah but are they actually going to make an effort to build those profiles or just give it the ol' college try to continue to push their remaining stock of gsync modules?

Linus had an interesting view on it @ 4:15

in short: Its a low ball effort to lure Manufactures into certification fees and up-sale them to G-Sync.

Also no HDMI for G-Sync validation only Display Port support

Recently got a FreeSync monitor, and before the news broke I was considering grabbing an R7 240 or something to use FreeSync on my 1070, but now I (hopefully) won't have to.

As much as I'd love to switch to AMD, their refusal to compete annoys me.

It makes me much more likely to get a Freesync monitor to replace my current Gsync one in the future, that's for sure. I don't like vendor lock-in, so will avoid it where possible.

If Nvidia believe that Gsync is much better than Freesync then why don't they allow their Gsync monitors to work with Freesync cards from AMD? Surely if the performance of Gsync monitors was so much better people would be prepared to pay for it?

Yes, but only valid if Nvidia can make a decent low end card. That's a pipe dream.

Because Turing and down don't have HDMI 2.1 and there likely isn't hardware behind it to make it work like GCN cards have.

Going to see how my KG 221 Q handles freesync : ) glad they allow freesync soon since I don't want the g sync tax.

It really had gotten increasingly difficult to find much variety in the G-Sync options. The roughly $200 premium per monitor for it didn't help sales. I think the end result will be that the G-Sync proprietary hw will go away, and we'll likely end up with G-Sync/FreeSync both simply being in all new gaming monitors without the added cost.

I have a G-Sync monitor and NV card and have been happy with it. But before buying I did take it into account and had to include the total cost of a G-Sync monitor and NV card vs. a cheaper FreeSync monitor and AMD card, to really compare apples to apples. I still went with NV anyway because of better recent experience with them over AMD cards. I'm not locked in to either side and will look at both AMD and NV next time I'm due to upgrade. But in a way this will end up being essentially a $200 price cut on the total price of a card and monitor.

Also, on the 12 monitors...NV is just saying they've only tested and certified 12 in-house for FreeSync compatibility so far. I haven't seen any evidence that G-Sync is any better than FreeSync to explain where very few FreeSync monitors will handle G-Sync. That seems a lot more like marketing by Nvidia than a real technical limitation in the FreeSync monitors.

Looks like it was a nogo - hdmi 2.1 minimum which doesn't exist on any current monitor or displayport, and my kg221q has no displayports.

The problem is that Jensen is such a douchebag liar. RTX-ON honestly is a gimmick and the only things I can't help but notice are artifacts and bugs that ruin the experience. On stage when Jensen demoes RTX-OFF vs ON, he turns off all lighting and shadows to fool people. WTF kind of scumbag thinks everyone is a fool? I can't stand the hype and lies that Nvidia spew. Gsync is a failed coop attempt. It was only a way for Nvidia to get a captive audience. Now that the panel manufacturers say enough is enough, Jensen says that Nvidia did a huge favor by testing over 400 panels out of which only 12 are Gsync-compatible indicating that the industry is a fraud, when it's Nvidia that's a fraud for not mentioning that actually all 400 panels are compatible and that it's just the LCD quality and color etc that they are disqualifying the more budget panels for. It's a shame. Good thing I can afford a Radeon VII, I get something that is 100% functional that just works from day-one. Even still, a Vega 64 costs $400 and a Vega56 is the same cost as a 2060. RTX is a hoax
