do u think they will add support for physx on 8800gs cards??

I'm sure it is only a matter of time. The technology is still new to the market, and as matures, it will support more cards.

Your right there Newtekie. It's to new to have it all done at once. But, because of the G92 being the top core and the GTX being the new stuff, they where going to be the first. But, it'll be happening.

Dude, love that picture! lol.. Yeah, it's been awhile since the new drivers. But, I think there will be a good update. I mean, they have to do something to contend with the x2 coming out like it's rumored to.

Its not nVidia PhysX per'se, it will also work on ATi cards. I forget whos doing the work, but he has the blessing of nVidia, and in fact, nVidia are helping him.

Yeah, they are doing it for ATI now. I think its a good idea in some ways. But, that is just me. I really don't care who's on top. As long as I'm getting the goods! :toast:

lol UT3 runs very nicely as of Cats 8.6 for ATi cards :p Cats 8.7 I'm feverishly awaiting though. I've seen some tests done and vs 8.6 8.7 DESTROYS the 8.6s. 3Dmark Vantage showed something like a 1.2k GPU score gain with a HD3870 X2. The wrapper being developed for PhysX on ATi cards, early it may be, is also looking great, around a 470pt gain in Vantage so far.

im wondering why it doesnt work on my 8800GS 384mb. 8800GS is fast enough to play the most demanding games on full settings. I play Crysis on very high settings at 1280*1200 resolution with 25 30fps and other games maxed out at my native 1600*1200 resolution. although i heavily overclocked the card to match the speed of a 8800gt roughly. I overclocked my card to 796Mhz core, 1850mhz shader and 1070mhz memory. i get over 11500 score on 3Dmark06. very close to a 8800gt. has anyone tried physx with 8800GS?????
please somebody help me to get the physx work on my 8800GS...

and It is not fair the ATI card owners use the Nvidia Physx when Nvidia users like me cannot even use the Nvidia Physx. I am going to send an email to Nvidia regarding this issue. ATI users should not be allowed . I have geforce 8800GS card and cant even use Physx, why ATI users should use it???? its not intended to use by them. I am going to email Nvidia and tell them to avoid this problem. Nvidia Physx is for Nvidia users only.

I really hate ATI products now. i wouldnt even touch the new ATI cards lineup like 4850 or etc... regardless of how affordable or fast they are with a 1000 foot stick from 100 miles away from now on. DIE ATI.

ATI card owners are responsible for the vast majority of the Nvidia users being unable to install the Phsyx on their Geforce cards.

John34, its not because of the power of the card on the reason why phsyx won't work. Its all have to do with the core. Just like CPU chips, GPU chips are the soul of that product. They only did it with the G92 core and the new GT200 core because they are the most popular and the ones out. The G80 core was the start of the 8 series, but it wasn't what they finished with. They finished with the G92 core and because of that, that's what they are wanting to try out. Just think of the G80's and every other core not being the genie pig

this whole video card thing is a mess, now i'm not sure if purchasing a 280 is a good idea. The 4870x2 80 percent faster but costs the same? Geforce moving ahead with a 300 chip. My 280 card comes today what do ya think? Got my 280 for 469.00 after a rebate, but can refuse it for a auto rma and exchange my faulty 4870? what would you guys do?

I've tried it with my 8800GS, PhysX just doesn't support the 8800GS right now. It only supports a limitted number of cards, that number will grow as time goes on and the technology matures. It isn't even supposed to support the 8800 series at all, but for some reason it does support the 8800GTS and 8800GT.

and It is not fair the ATI card owners use the Nvidia Physx when Nvidia users like me cannot even use the Nvidia Physx. I am going to send an email to Nvidia regarding this issue. The only reason ATi owners can use PhysX is because a third party hacked nVidia's PhysX driver and added support for ATi cards. NVidia had nothing to do with that. There is no reason to hate ATi. Nvidia limitted the products this will work on, you have to remember, this is still a BETA product, and nVidia is developing and releasing it for us to use totally free. You have to give it time to mature.

The 8800GS(and 9600GSO) are both G92 cores.

Agreed, 4 months to aquire a technology, learn it, and adapt it to run on GPUs is pretty damn good IMO.

Sorry but all I heard in this was wha..wha..wha. nVidia have their own strategic reasons for having support for ATi cards. Its easy to blame "the other side" but on the reverse of the coin you could easily critisice the G92 for being worked on first and not the G80. The simple truth is strategic plan aside, nVidia want the current best architecture supported first, which makes sence. Sit back and be patient. G80 support will come along when the PhysX technology is more mature.

keep the gtx 280 and play with it until august10-11, then sell it before it's value drops like a brick on a butterfly.

geforce 280 is too expensive to buy now and only a few people own it. 8800GS or 8800GT should be enough to play latest games on full settings until next year. Crysis is an exception. no games will be ever made like Crysis. even Crytek decided not to make games like Crysis from now on. Crysis Warhead will be playable at high settings with even a 8600gt :). Crytek just purposely made Crysis demanding and unoptimized to make people upgrade and they did it. They cant do this again. as many people would just pirate their game like they did for Crysis.

I have no idea what any of this has to do with this thread. This isn't a discussion about what cards should be capable of playing games on what settings. This is a thread to help people with PhysX.

newtekie1: look at you. how many computers or video cards you have? i feel sorry for all those money that was wasted on those things. no i wont stop talking about video cards. Soon you will know that your 9800gtx cant run many games in the future considering how much you paid for it. its just pathetic. why dont you just blow money for 280 or 4850? i bet its so easy for you to just waste your money down the toilet bowl. you are an insult to most of the decent people in here. please get the fuck out of here.

I started the thread there buddy, why don't you leave it? Progressing technology is a good thing, I wouldn't be happy if it didn't progress, and I also wouldn't be happy if video games didn't improve either.

You don't have to play the latest games on the highest settings, as new games come out lowering the settings away from the highest gives you the same look as the older games, so it isn't a big deal to play games on lower settings.

Edit: And keeping a high end system isn't that hard and doesn't cost that much if you do it correctly. Upgrade usually cost me under $50. I sell the old part before I buy the new, I usually go in spirts where I do like 3 quick upgrades in a row on the same part, then stick with the last upgrade for a year or so. I worked up to my 9800GTX, I didn't just go out and buy it. I started with SLI 7900GT's. I sold those for $200 and bought a 8800GT for $200, I sold that for what I bought it for, then use the money to buy a 8800GTS for $250, then I sold that for what I paid for it and bought the 9800GTX for $280. Now that the prices on the 9800GTX have gone down to below $200 I might pick another one up and then stick with that setup for a year or two. I had my 7900GT's for 2 years. The same concept goes for my lower end machines.
