i seem to remember being able to adjust my 5.1 surround speakers from an 'audio' tab in the purevideo 'decoder properties' window ...

for some reason, the tab seems to have disappeared?

anybody know why this would be happening?

...

the only time i can access that control panel is when a DVD is playing in windows media player; there was, at one time, options to configure all the speakers individually and what not but seems to be gone now.

anyone?

turns out, i had installed the AC3 Filter freeware, maybe attached with some other DVD related software in the past, and it had configured itself to be the primary audio decoder when viewing DVD's in windows media player.

in media player, i simply went to tools/options/DVD/advanced ... and under the 'system' tab of the AC3 Filter configuration ... specified to not employ it for any applications.

after that, the nvidia purevideo decoder took over the audio again.

yay. got the audio control properties back.
